• Zac Brown opened up on the TODAY Show about his recent proposal to jewelry designer Kendra Scott
• “What are you gonna get somebody that designs jewelry?” he joked, and ultimately settled on a large pink diamond for the occasion
• PEOPLE exclusively revealed the couple’s engagement on July 24

Zac Brown is shedding some light on his proposal to Kendra Scott.

The country singer popped the question to the jewelry designer on July 24, PEOPLE revealed. The couple first publicly debuted their relationship on the red carpet at the American Music Awards in May, after dating for several months, a source told PEOPLE.

On July 25, Brown appeared on the TODAY Show and opened up about the engagement — specifically, the daunting task of finding the perfect ring for Scott, who designs jewelry for a living. Ultimately, he “got her good” with the proposal, Brown said.

“What are you gonna get somebody that designs jewelry?” Brown joked. “But it’s incredible, incredible. So happy … We’re so happy we found each other and we’re blessed.”

He added, “It just adds so much energy to everything else. More to give to music, more to give to our families and everything, so we’re blessed.”

Brown proposed on a pier at sunset with a large pink diamond ring, per their engagement photos. The couple smiled wide for the romantic moment, and told PEOPLE, “We’re so happy and grateful that we found each other.”

Brown and Scott first met through a mutual friend, a source told PEOPLE in May, when the couple hard launched their relationship on the AMA red carpet. Both parents, the musician and the jewelry designer have eight total children between them.
