In her rookie season last season, Caitlin Clark quickly emerged as a star and the biggest draw in the WNBA.
This did not go unnoticed around the league and Clark was subjected to a lot of rough play and hard fouls. There was video, some of it unflattering, of Clark protesting the sometimes rough play she had to deal with.
By the end of the season though, her talent was undeniable.
This year, Clark has shown signs of what we call positive arrogance and her team has been built around her. She appears more confident and certainly she’s established herself that extra dose of confidence.
We saw evidence of that in Indiana’s win over Chicago.
Although Clark and Chicago’s Angel Reese have both laughed off the suggestion of animosity there appeared to be some in Saturday’s game between the Fever and the Sky: when Reese got a rebound and what should have been a chippie (although we’ve seen Reese brick enough layups to build a house) ended up with Clark shoving her to the ground.
After the standard too-long review, Clark was given a flagrant foul, which was assessed correctly.
However, the play sent a message: the sometimes meek Clark who put up with a lot of rough stuff as a rookie is no more.
