Let’s talk about the New York Yankees, Jake Mintz, because they have been adding when we, there’s another thing, when we woke up today.
They had only acquired hitters.
They had acquired Ryan McMahon, they had acquired Ahmed Rosario, they had acquired Austin Slater.
Uh, and it was like, OK, well, you can see where those guys fit on the roster, but the need here appears to be on the mound, particularly in the bullpen, where their bullpen array is one of the worst in baseball over the last month.
We just saw Devin Williams choke it up again, and him and Weaver kind of alternated going through struggles.
At their best, those guys are really good, but they have injuries and clearly they needed a bullpen help.
They get David Bednar.
And now they get Camilo Doval from the Giants.
How about that?
So, and Jake Burt from the Rockies, wow, they made multiple trades with the Rockies.
That is a hell of an uh an accomplishment there.
And it didn’t involve Joe Harvey.
Congratulations.
Um, this is quite, this is OK, OK, now we’re, by the way, Mets and Phillies fans are listening, like, guys, come on, what about us?
We just remade our whole bullpen, we got like we’re gonna get to, we’re gonna get to you later.
But the Yankees fully, you know, given the, the, the bullpen makeover is, I think, appropriate.
I think that that this is something that they needed to do, and I’m, I’m really impressed.
Super fascinating strategic decision here.
And I think a very intelligent reading of the market, this particular deadline, where perhaps, OK, so what, what would, what did the Yankees really need, right?
They probably needed one bullpen arm, and then like a starter that they trusted in a playoff game, is how I would have like gone about the Yankee deadline.
But instead of trying to get a starter they trust in a playoff game, Because there were very few types of those starters available that got moved, right?
You now have Instead, they’re basically gonna just shorten the game with this five-headed, six-headed monster, if you’re like me and you love Tim Hill.
And if Johnny Lasagna gets back on track, right?
You have Bednar, Williams, Weaver, Hill, Bird, Dova, Luisaga.
Like, that’s sick, dude.
That is awesome.
And so now you’re gonna have Fried in game 1, Rodan in game 2, and then it’s like, OK, well, sure, we’ll deal with Will Warren for 4.
Right, we’ll give the ball to Cam Schlitter for 2.
Luis Hill comes back, he can throw 3 innings.
It’s gonna be more piecemeal than a traditional playoff approach, but I think it’s a really interesting way to go about it for the Yankees.
