WWE reportedly wants to hold WrestleMania in Vegas ‘on a regular basis’

Yesterday (May 22), WWE shook up any early plans wrestling fans and independent promotions might have been making for next year’s WrestleMania 42 when they announced the show will no longer be happening in New Orleans.

Before long, reports were out that WWE was planning on holding the show in Las Vegas for the second year in a row. Today, we’re hearing more about those plans in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

According to the Observer, Sin City could become a somewhat permanent home for WWE’s biggest event of the year. Dave Meltzer writes:

The decision was made partially because this year’s WrestleMania made so much money overall in Las Vegas from all sources that they could not make that level of money in New Orleans.

The other is that the company loved having it in Las Vegas, because key TKO executives live there and are there and Nick Khan grew up there.

The plan is now to run WrestleMania on a regular basis in the city, not necessarily every year, but frequently. The idea is that the city wants to have a major destination sports event every year, and by definition they are looking at the Super Bowl, The Final Four, the College Football national championship final and WrestleMania so would be looking for Mania any year that they don’t have one of the other three events.

Vegas is next scheduled to host the College Football title game in 2027, and the NCAA Final Four in 2028. It is not the site of any of the currently announced Super Bowls (through 2028).

Meltzer also confirmed the report that WWE is looking at running WrestleMania 42 at Allegiant Stadium the weekend of April 18-19, but claims there are still logistical issues to be worked out. Those include a concert scheduled for Allegiant shortly before those dates that will make setting up a massive production like ‘Mania difficult or impossible, and another event has significant portions of the Las Vegas Convention Center (which this year hosted WWE World) booked that week.

Thoughts on this plan, Cagesiders?
