The battle lines have been drawn, and the stars of “WWE NXT” are in Tampa, FL for this year’s Battleground event.
The show will be jam-packed with title action, as WWE NXT Champion Oba Femi will defend his title in the main event against the deaf superstar, Myles Borne. Borne is looking to be an example to disabled athletes everywhere with his win. Meanwhile, WWE NXT Women’s Champion Stephanie Vaquer is set to defend her title against former TNA Knockouts Champion Jordynne Grace. Grace and Vaquer have been tentative allies since Grace joined “NXT,” but Grace is still as ambitious as anyone, making the title around Vaquer’s waist a target.
WWE NXT Women’s North American Champion Sol Ruca will face the inaugural champion Kelani Jordan. Also, WWE NXT Tag Team Champions Hank & Tank will team with Josh Briggs to take on The Culling’s Niko Vance, Shawn Spears, and Briggs’s former tag partner Brooks Jensen. Plus former The D’Angelo Family’s issues come to a head, as Tony D’Angelo will face Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo for the first time since Stacks betrayed “The Don.”
Finally, TNA World Champion Joe Hendry will put his title on the line against Trick Williams, marking the first time the TNA World Title will be defended on a WWE show.
WWE NXT Battleground is set to air at 8 pm ET on Peacock.
The show opens with all of the various champions and contenders entering the arena in Tampa.
WWE NXT Women’s North American Championship Match: Sol Ruca (w/ Zaria) (c) vs. Kelani Jordan
Both women use their athleticism to dodge suplexes and throws to start. A series of leapfrogs culminates in Ruca doing a full flip over Kelani. Ruca takes Kelani to the mat and surfs her for a moment. Jordan comes back but gets caught in an STF by Ruca. Jordan counters with a nearfall.
Back on their feet and Ruca hits a stalling Vertical Suplex. Ruca kips up and the two women trade pin attempts. Ruca blocks a Crucifix attempt briefly, but Jordan powers through for a nearfall. Ruca attempts a Springboard and gets knocked down by Jordan. Jordan gets a nearfall and the two women go back to trading reversals. Jordan hits a Northern Lights Suplex for a nearfall.
Jordan hits a Spinning Samoan Drop for a nearfall. Jordan looks for a single-leg crab and locks it in after a struggle. Jordan keeps Ruca from reaching the ropes. Jordan transitions into a Jackknife Pin for a nearfall. Jordan tries to get Ruca on the top rope and is hit with an Avalanche X-Factor by Ruca for her trouble. Ruca cannot capitalize and both women are down.
Both women struggle to their feet. Ruca gets some momentum and hits a series of running strikes. Jordan goes to the apron. Ruca goes on the attack but Jordan reverses and brings her to the apron. They struggle. Jordan is sent back into the ring. Jordan rocks Ruca with a kick, sending Ruca to ringside. Jordan follows up with an Asai Moonsailt. Back in the ring, and Jordan goes for a Diving Hurracanrana. Ruca counters and hits an inventive Backcracker. Jordan rolls out of the ring. Ruca hits a Space Flying Tiger Drop.
Back in the ring, Ruca hits a Springboard Splash for a nearfall. Jordan counters a Death Valley Driver with a DDT. Kelani goes to the top rope and hits a Frog Splash for three frustrating nearfalls. Both women go to the top rope and fight. Jordan goes for an Avalanche Poisonrana, but Ruca ends up on her feet. Ruca hits a Spear for a nearfall.
Jordan counters a Sol Snatcher. Ruca goes to the top but Jordan meets her there. Jordan hits a Spanish Fly for a nearfall. They trade blows. Kelani drops Ruca but Zaria moves Ruca out of the way before Jordan can hit a Split-Legged Moonsault. Jordan hits a big strike as Zaria is expelled from the arena. Jordan counters a Sol Snatcher. They fight to the top rope. Headbutt from Ruca sends Jordan to the canvas. Sol hits a Sol Snatcher from the top rope for the pinfall.

After a replay of the events that led to the match, Spears gives a dramatically lit pep talk to The Culling. Elsewhere backstage, Ava talks to Luchadoras from AAA but we are quickly sent to Sarah Schrieber interviewing TNA’s Mike Santana. Santana says he’s waiting to see Trick Williams and Joe Hendry, as he’ll be coming after the TNA World Champion. He outright calls out the winner of the match, only to be interrupted by Charlie Dempsey, who says he’s sick of outsiders. Tavion Heights respectfully challenges Santana to a match on Tuesday.
Hank, Tank, and Josh Briggs vs. The Culling (Shawn Spears, Brooks Jensen, and Niko Vance) (w/ Izzi Dame)
Briggs barnstorms The Culling to start the match. He levels Vance with a big lariat and Vance ends up in unfriendly territory.
Hank tags in and unleashes a double-team assault alongside Tank. After the assault lets up, Hank is sent into the ringpost hard. Brooks Jensen tags in and dominates Hank with attacks and suplex for a nearfall. Vance tags in and stomps away on Hank. Vance gets a nearfall and continues the assault. Spears tags in and continues the stomp party on Hank. Spears taunts Tank and Briggs a little too long and Hank comes back with a big strike. Vance tags in to prevent Hank from getting to his corner. Jensen tags in and does the same. Hank hits a big Back Body Drop and makes the tag to Tank. Spears also tags in but Tank runs over all three members of The Culling, tossing them to and fro. Tank hits a big Running Cannonball Senton to the outside. Back in the ring, Tank hits a big shoulder tackle and gets Spears on the top rope. Briggs keeps Vance and Jensen from helping. Hank and Tank hit a Double Superplex. Briggs tags in and hits a Moonsault on Spears. Jensen and Vance break up the pinfall.
Briggs fights off The Culling and tags in Tank. Jensen tags in as well and hits a big heel kick on Tank. Vance tags in. Vance picks up Tank for a Dominator. Jensen hits a Double Stomp. Vance hits a Dominator. They cover but the pinfall is broken by Hank. Jensen tags in. Hank prevents the double team. Briggs tags in. Hank and Tank wipe out Spears with a Double Spear. Briggs drags Jensen back in the ring. Briggs hits a Sideslam and a Splash. The official is distracted. Izzi Dame hits Briggs with a heel. Briggs recovers and hits Jensen with a Clothesline From Hell. Tank tags in. Hank and Tank hit a Double Body Splash and an Assisted Oklahoma Stampede for the pinfall.

After the match, The Culling attack the winners. Izzi Dame goes for a chair but is stopped by a returning Yoshiki Inamura, who helps Hank, Tank, and Briggs fight off the faction.
Backstage, Sarah Schrieber interviews Ethan Page, who says that all of Ricky Saints’s confidence is all for show. After Page’s rant, Ava comes out and says that the NXT North American Title match will kick off this week’s “NXT” and the winner will defend the title at Worlds Collide on June 7.
Tony D’Angelo vs. Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo
The bell rings and both men stare each other down. Tony smacks Lorenzo in the mouth and immediately takes him to the mat for some ground and pound. D’Angelo lariats Lorenzo out of the ring. Tony brings him back in the ring. Stacks fights back and delivers some blows to the back of Tony’s head.
They brawl to the outside. Tony throws Stacks into the barricade and then the ringpost. He berates and beats Stacks. Stacks fights back and dropkicks D’Angelo into the steel steps. Stacks gets D’Angelo back in the ring and maintains dominance. Stacks hits a big cannonball in the corner for a nearfall.
Stacks locks in a stretch on D’Angelo. He transitions to a body scissors. Tony continues to struggle. Stacks chops away at Tony and Tony does likewise. They trade blows until Stacks breaks the hold. Lorenzo continues to attack the injured ribs of D’Angelo. Stacks hits Cement Shoes for a nearfall. Stacks berates D’Angelo. Stacks pulls the hair for a two-count. D’Angelo comes back with an Overhead Belly To Belly Suplex.
Tony hits a series of strikes and throws Stacks to the mat with an Uranage. Tony hits a big Spinebuster. D’Angelo hits a series of punches to the ribs, crumpling Lorenzo. Stacks hits a toe kick. Tony dodges a knee. D’Angelo hits a deadlift German Suplex for a nearfall. Stacks goes for a Triangle Choke but D’Angelo powerbomb out of it. D’Angelo mounts and pummels Stacks. He stops himself. He looks at his hands and wonders why he’s so violent. Tony looks at Stacks remorsefully. Stacks takes advantage and takes Tony to ringside. Tony goes into the ringpost, back-first. Tony dodges an apron cannonball, letting Stacks crash into the ringpost.
Back in the ring, D’Angelo hits a Spinning Fisherman’s Suplex for a nearfall. Tony can’t take advantage, as his ribs are too injured. Stacks takes advantage and hits a rope-hung Leg Drop. D’Angelo crashes out of the ring. Stacks looks for his crowbar, but it’s missing. D’Angelo attacks, gets Stacks back in the ring, and hits a huge Spear. D’Angelo mounts and pummels Stacks, delivering blows to the back of his head. Stacks begs for mercy. D’Angelo says “You made your bed” and hits a big kick to the back of the head. D’Angelo hits a Spinebuster. Luca Crusifino appears at ringside. D’Angelo is shocked. Everyone is distracted and Stacks kicks Tony below the belt. Stacks hits a Hidden Blade for the pinfall.

WWE NXT Women’s Championship Match: Stephanie Vaquer (c) vs. Jordynne Grace
Handshake to start. They lock up and Grace gets an early advantage with her strength. Vaquer is determined but unable to get the upper hand on Grace. Vaquer tries to wriggle free but gets thrown to the canvas.
Vaquer starts to get some momentum on her side, getting a series of futile nearfalls. Grace ducks a roundhouse. Vaquer ducks a Spinning Backfist. They circle each other. Grace takes Vaquer to the corner, where Vaquer comes back. Vaquer gets a rollup for a nearfall. Grace ducks a Tiger Feint Kick. Vaquer tries to do her move where she uses her knees to slam her opponent into the mat, but Grace rolls out of the ring, Vaquer on her shoulders, and dumps the champion onto the announce table. Grace throws Vaquer into the barricade. Grace gets Vaquer back in the ring.
Gracev locks in a Boston Crab. Vaquer fights out. Grace gets Vaquer on her shoulders but Vaquer counters with a Rear Naked Choke. Grace slams Vaquer to break the hold. Both women are down. Grace recovers and pummels Vaquer in the corner. Grace hits a slamd and Vaquer dodges a Vader Bomb. Vaquer locks in a rope-hung Armbar for a three count. Vaquer hits Eat Da Feet. Vaquer dominates Grace in the corner. Vaquer hits a running Meteora. Vaquer hits a back suplex. Vaquer wraps her legs around Grace’s neck and slams Grace’s head into the mat repeatedly. Vaquer covers for a nearfall.
Vaquer fights out of a Boston Crab. Grace hits a Spinebuster. Grace hits a Package Powerbomb for a nearfall. Vaquer fights out of a Pumphandle Driver and floors Grace. Vaquer hits a rough DDT for a nearfall. Both women fight to their feet.
Vaquer goes to the top rope but Grace meets her up there. Grace smacks Vaquer repeatedly. Grace hits a Superplex followed by a Jackhammer for a nearfall. Vaquer rolls up Grace for a nearfall. Vaquer counters a rollup with an SVB attempt. Grace counters. Vaquer rolls up Grace for a nearfall. Grace counters a tilt-a-whirl. Vaquer goes for another rollup. Vaquer hits a flurry of strikes. Grace rolls out of the ring. Grace goes for a Death Valley Driver, but Vaquer counters and sends Grace through the ringside barricade. Back in the ring and Vaquer hits SVB for a nearfall.
Grace counters another SVB. The two women trade elbows. Vaquer hits a big Dragon Screw in the corner. Vaquer climbs to the top rope. Grace catches her. Vaquer sends her to the canvas. Vaquer hits a Corkscrew Moonsault for the pinfall.

Sarah Schriber welcomes Ricky Saints. Saints comes out with his title. He says that Ethan Page is like an uninvited guest at a party. He says that he is Page’s new obsession, and has been ever since their last match. Saints says he put his title on the line because he knew “his greed wouldn’t let an opportunity like this slip away.” He says he’s tired of Page and if that means defending the title, so be it.
Saints then addresses the Worlds Collide Match and says that if anyone wants a piece of him, “they can come and get it.” He calls himself an ambassador, so at Worlds Collide, he will defend his title against the best AAA have to offer, but before he can finish, Ethan Page shows up and the two men brawl. Security tries to separate them but Saints dives from the ring onto the pool of security guards and Page.
