  4. Those who are not willing to miss a second of Alcaraz-Norrie are instantly treated to examples of the Spaniard’s explosive forehand.
  5. Wind it up and watch it go.

  7. Norrie 1-0 Alcaraz*
  8. As quickly as they arrived, Cam Norrie’s break points disappear.

  14. Norrie 1-0 Alcaraz*

  21. John McEnroe
  22. Three-time Wimbledon singles champion on BBC One
  23. Some slow starts from Alcaraz so Norrie needs to take advantage of that if possible.
  24. Norrie has got to be able to hit his backhand flat up the line and make Alcaraz move. Easier said than done.

  29. Anisimova 6-1 5-2 Pavlyuchenkova*
  30. Amanda Anisimova’s first serve makes a timely return, with an ace to take her to 40-0.

  32. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova is serving to stay in the match.
  33. Jonathan Jurejko
  34. BBC Sport senior tennis reporter at Wimbledon

  43. Nothing at all is going the Russian’s way as the ball hits the net chord and drops back onto her side. Amanda Anisimova has her breakthrough.
  44. Norrie v Alcaraz
  45. For any Cam Norrie fans searching for reasons to be optimistic, the good news is that he has beaten Carlos Alcaraz before – twice.
  46. In fact, he’s won two of their last three meetings. Albeit the most recent was in February 2023 and on clay.
  47. His other win was on a hard court in August 2022 so why not complete the surface set today?
  48. Anisimova 6-1 3-2 Pavlyuchenkova*
  49. Amanda Anisimova frowns at the ground as a backhand sails long and a cross-court sliced forehand from the baseline drifts into the tramlines to throw away two promising opportunities to put the pressure on Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.
  50. However, she issues a huge roar as a booming stroke brings up another break point.
  51. Alcaraz v Norrie
  52. Jonathan Jurejko
  53. BBC Sport senior tennis reporter at Wimbledon
  54. You might have thought you wouldn’t see Cameron Norrie playing at this level again.
  55. Norrie has endured a difficult time over the past couple of seasons, with a forearm injury last year contributing to his ranking plummeting towards the bottom of the top 100.
  56. But, after a clear-the-air talk with his team after the Miami Open in March, he has rediscovered his form.
  57. Norrie and his team, led by coach and former Texas Christian University team-mate Facu Lugones, talked about how they all needed to rediscover the enjoyment of being on the professional tour.
  58. That means embracing life more when they’re travelling the world, with a more relaxed mind leading to better tennis.
  59. Since then, Norrie has reached the French Open fourth round last month before forging another deep Grand Slam run at Wimbledon.
  60. Norrie v Alcaraz
  61. Billie Jean King
  62. Six-time Wimbledon singles champion on BBC TV
  63. Alcaraz is the player to beat. He is so imaginative. Every generation gets better and he could go on to be the best player ever.
  64. I hope he continues to love playing and takes advantage of the gift that he has been given.
  65. Anisimova 6-1 3-2 Pavlyuchenkova*
  66. Amanda Anisimova holds to love for the first time in the match. The penultimate point is the pick of the game, with Anisimova advancing to the net and driving a huge forehand winner.
  67. The pressure is back on Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

  70. What a noise!
  71. Cameron Norrie and Carlos Alcaraz are greeted by an enormous cheer as they emerge onto Centre Court.
  72. The home crowd will surely be backing the Brit but Alcaraz is such a big favourite at the All England Club that the fans would be almost as happy to see him advance.
  73. *Anisimova 6-1 2-2 Pavlyuchenkova

  75. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova saves both break points and comes through to hold serve, making the most of a couple of uncharacteristically poor returns into the net from Amanda Anisimova.
  76. She needed that hold. It’s her turn to pump her first.
  77. Norrie v Alcaraz
  78. John McEnroe
  79. Three-time Wimbledon singles champion on BBC One
  80. Alcaraz will have a crowd against him so he will not be used to that. It will be interesting to see who the crowd will be backing, he will still have some fans.
  81. Cam will be starting to bubble out there. He finds it when he needs it and he has been getting better and better.
  82. Alcaraz is the most skilled player of his age that I have ever seen. That will inspire the youth and will hopefully change things in a positive way.
  83. Anisimova 6-1 2-1 Pavlyuchenkova*
  84. Amanda Anisimova pumps her fist in celebration. On the run, she’s nailed a cross-court backhand beyond the reach of Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

  5. Norrie v Alcaraz
  6. Jonathan Jurejko
  7. BBC Sport senior tennis reporter at Wimbledon
  8. Beating 22-year-old Alcaraz is one of the most difficult tasks in the sport right now.
  9. The five-time major champion is on a 22-match winning streak, having claimed the Rome and French Open titles on the clay before heading to Ibiza for a now traditional pre-Wimbledon break.
  10. Norrie, 29, decided to try the same strategy, spending time in Pacha nightclub as well as playing golf and chilling on the beach.
  11. “I was telling my team, let’s see if the Carlos method can work because he went to Ibiza and he won Wimby,” he told British newspapers., external
  12. “When you come to the court fresh, and you’ve had a few days on the beach or a few days in the sun relaxing, you feel ready to compete again.”
  13. *Anisimova 6-1 1-1 Pavlyuchenkova
  14. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova has her hand on her hip as another forehand goes long: 15-all.
  15. She’s later pegged back to 30-30 but completes an important hold as Amanda Anisimova fires a down-the-line backhand into the tramlines.

  19. Confusion as electronic line judge system calls phantom fault
  20. There was more controversy around the electronic line call system at Wimbledon during this afternoon’s quarter-final action as a point in Taylor Fritz’s match with Karen Khachanov had to be replayed because of a “malfunction” with the technology.
  21. Wimbledon organisers apologised on Saturday after human error led to the system on Centre Court being turned off by mistake and missed three calls during Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova’s match with Britain’s Sonay Kartal.
  22. This time, ‘fault’ was erroneously called during play in the first match of the fourth set, with Fritz leading 15-0 after taking the first two sets 6-3 6-4, but losing the third 1-6.
  23. After checking what the issue was over the phone, the umpire said: “Ladies and gentleman we will replay the last point because of a malfunction. The system is now working.”
  24. Anisimova 6-1 1-0 Pavlyuchenkova*
  25. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova misses two returns off second serves to spurn a promising opportunity after pulling the game back to 40-40.
  26. She clutched her elbow a few times during the opening game of the second set.
  27. The BBC has teamed up with Wimbledon: Tennis Showdown for a tennis-themed adventure on Roblox.

  33. World number one Aryna Sabalenka, speaking after beating Laura Siegemund to reach the Wimbledon semi-finals: “That was a real test. I need some time to cool down and recover after this.
  34. “She pushed me so much. After the first set I was looking at my box and thinking, ‘book the tickets, we are about to leave this beautiful place’. She played an incredible tournament and match. I’m just super happy with the match and win.
  35. “The atmosphere was another level. Thank you guys for your support, you don’t understand how much you helped me to stay in the game and enjoy playing in front of you all.”
  36. On Siegemund’s style: “It is a smart game. She is really making everyone work against her, you know you have to work for every point.
  37. “It doesn’t matter if you are a big hitter, big server, you have to work, you have to run and to earn the victory. I had to make sure I didn’t show I was annoyed by her, even if I was slightly, I didn’t want to give her that energy.”
  38. On having days of and how tough the the second week of a Grand Slam is: “It is tough, but beautiful. If you make the second week, it means you are achieving your goals and dreams.
  39. “It is about balance – hard work is hard work but also you have to do things you enjoy outside of the court and that has helped me enjoy these battles.”
  40. *Anisimova 6-1 0-0 Pavlyuchenkova
  41. Amanda Anisimova starts the second set with a serve into the net and later double faults to bring the game back to 30-all.
  42. However, such is her ground stroke dominance that whenever she does get a serve in, she can set up camp on the baseline and attack on the front foot.
  43. *Anisimova 6-1 0-0 Pavlyuchenkova
  44. Sonia Oxley
  45. BBC Sport at Wimbledon
  46. Pavlyuchenkova left Court One at the end of that set – she needs to find some energy. Her opponent has too much – she’s spent the break jumping around on the baseline.
  47. Alcaraz v Norrie
  48. Jonathan Jurejko
  49. BBC Sport senior tennis reporter at Wimbledon
  50. As he prepares to face Cameron Norrie in the Wimbledon quarter-finals, Carlos Alcaraz does have one losing record against a British player this fortnight.
  51. The Spanish superstar might have been unbeatable on the tennis court – having won the Queen’s title before moving confidently into the SW19 last eight – but Sir Andy Murray has been quick to reveal Alcaraz is not as dominant on the golf course.
  52. The pair have been playing together over the past 10 days, with the recently-retired Scot edging a best-of-three contest.
  53. “It’s true he beat me. But golf is a sport that is really helpful for me to switch off my mind,” Alcaraz said.
  54. “I’m trying to play as much golf as I can on my days off.”
  55. *Anisimova 6-1 0-0 Pavlyuchenkova
  56. Peter Odgers
  57. BBC Sport commentator
  58. A bazooka of a backhand from Anisimova in that game. Some ripping returns from her. She has just dealt with playing a quarterfinal better than her opponent.
  59. Anisimova has not found many first serves but other than that she has been impressive.
  60. Image source, BBC Sport
  61. We’re being told Henman Hill is full with watching fans.
  62. Spectators are being prevented on making their way there currently – with Aryna Sabalenka v Laura Siegemund having been so gripping and British hope Cameron Norrie next up against defending champion Carlos Alcaraz, it’s little surprise!
  63. *Anisimova 6-1 0-0 Pavlyuchenkova
  64. Amanda Anisimova wraps up the first set in 27 minutes as Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova loops another forehand long.
  65. The American has out-muscled Pavlyuchenkova and converted three of her four break points.
  66. However, she’ll be keen to improve her serve in the second set – her first serve percentage is down at 45%.
  67. Anisimova 5-1 Pavlyuchenkova*
  68. Wow. A big backhand down the line creeps inside the baseline to bring Amanda Anisimova back into the game before a double fault levels the game at 30-all.
  69. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova then fires a shot long to gift Anisimova set point.
  70. Anisimova 5-1 Pavlyuchenkova*
  71. Despite serving poorly, Amanda Anisimova races into a 40-0 lead.
  72. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, who must be kicking herself for not capitalising on more of these second serves, pegs a point back with a powerful forehand after toying with her opponent on the baseline and a double fault makes it 40-30.
  73. However, Anisimova steadies herself and holds to leave Pavlyuchenkova serving to stay in the set.
  74. *Anisimova 4-1 Pavlyuchenkova
  75. Sonia Oxley
  76. BBC Sport at Wimbledon
  77. There are a lot of empty seats on Court One, if anyone has nipped out for a drink they’d better get back soon as this set looks like it might be over pretty quickly.
  78. Sabalenka 4-6 6-2 6-4 Siegemund
  79. Annabel Croft
  80. Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Live
  81. What a match! What an absolutely enthralling contest that was.
  82. I reckon that is one of the most uncomfortable, most painful matches Sabalenka has ever had to play in her life.
  83. Siegemund played that match so well tactically to make her play some of the worst tennis of her career.
  84. Sabalenka 3-6 6-2 6-4 Siegemund
  85. Aryna Sabalenka says she will need “some time to cool down and recover” from that quarter-final match. Too right. She was pushed to the limit by Laura Siegemund.
  86. Full quotes to come from the world number one.
  87. *Anisimova 4-1 Pavlyuchenkova
  88. Martina Navratilova
  89. Nine-time Wimbledon singles champion on BBC Two
  90. Pavlyuchenkova is not playing her best tennis. She is mis-hitting and mis-timing balls and Anisimova is well in the driving seat.
  91. Pavlyuchenkova is finally on the board but she looks frustrated.
  92. Sabalenka 3-6 6-2 6-4 Siegemund
  93. Sam Smith
  94. Former British number one on BBC One
  95. Sabalenka survives.
  96. The toughest of tests for the world number one. I suspect she feels like she has played all four quarter-finals.
  97. I think she might be going head first into the ice bath after that.

Page 3

  1. *Anisimova 4-1 Pavlyuchenkova
  2. I feel like you don’t see many lets on second serves but we’ve already had at least three in this match, including two in a row from Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.
  3. Amanda Anisimova is continuing to nail her ground strokes, nailing a deep return to set up a forehand winner for 40-30.
  4. However, Pavlyuchenkova keeps her cool to finally get on the board in this quarter-final.

  7. The world number one is through to the semi-finals, but if Aryna Sabalenka goes on to win the title on Saturday then she will surely look back at this match as her toughest test.
  8. What a contest.
  9. After two hours and 54 minutes, she finally gets the better of 37-year-old Laura Siegemund – who put in one of the performances of her career to almost knock out the world’s best player.
  10. Sabalenka 3-6 6-2 5-4 Siegemund*
  11. What a drop shot! Laura Siegemund gets the ball just over the net with a swish of her racquet.
  12. Still another break point to save.
  13. Sabalenka 3-6 6-2 5-4 Siegemund*
  14. Aryna Sabalenka strikes first in a service game that Laura Siegemund must win to stay alive in the tournament. A massive forehand that Siegemund can’t get back.
  15. Siegemund still ever so deliberate during her service motion.
  16. The German nets – 0-30. Dangerous times for the 37-year-old. A round of applause from the crowd on Centre Court, trying to raise the underdog for one last effort.
  17. Sabalenka nets for 15-30.
  18. Then Siegemund long for 15-40 and two match points for the world number one…
  19. Sabalenka 4-6 6-2 5-4 Siegemund*
  20. Annabel Croft
  21. Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Live
  22. This is the most comfortable I’ve seen Sabalenka in 2 hours and 50 minutes. She is starting to believe she can get through this match.
  23. Anisimova 4-0 Pavlyuchenkova*
  24. As in her previous service game, Amanda Anisimova saves a break point and comes through deuce unscathed.
  25. However, she’s been far shakier than her 4-0 lead suggests and is really struggling with her first serve.
  26. *Anisimova 3-0 Pavlyuchenkova
  27. Amanda Anisimova’s ball toss is all over the shop and her head goes down as a double fault leaves her 15-30 down.
  28. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova hits a forehand return long but is quickly rewarded with a break point as Anisimova finds the net with a poorly struck forehand.

  34. *Anisimova 3-0 Pavlyuchenkova
  35. Martina Navratilova
  36. Nine-time Wimbledon singles champion on BBC Two
  37. Anisimova has done a great job with her footwork and being in an aggressive position. It is not all arm, your body has to be in the right position as well.
  38. She has one of the fastest second serve return speeds and is doing so well on those points.
  39. *Anisimova 3-0 Pavlyuchenkova
  40. Three games into this quarter-final and 13th seed Amanda Anisimova has already converted two of her three break points.
  41. Anisimova 2-0 Pavlyuchenkova*
  42. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova hasn’t settled into this game. With a double fault, she’s 0-30 down and she’s lucky not to find herself facing three break points as Amanda Anisimova easily chases down a heavy-handed drop shot.
  43. However, she can’t halt the American for long. Two more break points.
  44. *Sabalenka 3-6 6-2 4-4 Siegemund
  45. Laura Siegemund goes long! All square again!
  46. More twists and turns than a rollercoaster.
  47. Sabalenka 3-6 6-2 3-4 Siegemund*
  48. Laura Siegemund goes just wide with a sliced forehand.
  49. Another break point…

  51. Peter Odgers
  52. BBC Sport commentator
  53. Anisimova has said that she always feels better and more comfortable when she can take an early break. It takes that little bit of pressure off her serve.
  54. A nice ace from the American in that game. She is stepping into the forehand brilliantly and beautifully.

  59. Into the net from the world number one! Break point saved.
  60. Sabalenka 3-6 6-2 3-4 Siegemund*
  61. Laura Siegemund tries a drop shot but nets it and it’s 15-30. This will be anything but straightforward if the German is going to wrap it up from here.
  62. She wins the next two points but then goes long off the ground and it’s deuce.
  63. Now advantage Sabalenka…
  64. *Anisimova 1-0 Pavlyuchenkova
  65. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova has an immediate opportunity to break back.
  66. Amanda Anisimova goes 30-15 up with an ace but is soon pegged back to 30-40 with consecutive unforced errors. The first – missing an empty court with a forehand after dragging Pavlyuchenkova out wide – is followed by a glare at the court.

  68. Sam Smith
  69. Former British number one on BBC One

  71. She is brilliant, Siegemund, in terms of what she brings to the court, her repertoire.
  72. *Anisimova 1-0 Pavlyuchenkova
  73. Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova saves one break point but comes unstuck on the second, Amanda Anisimova playing on the front foot and creeping up the court nicely.

  53. It is all such new territory for Laura Siegemund.
  54. Sabalenka, a three-time major winner, has so much more experience on the big courts, let’s see if it make a difference.

  58. Sabalenka is entering into dangerous territory now. In the past when she has been up against the wall, she is usually like Serena [Williams] where she galvanises and brings it all together. I am not totally convinced that is going to happen in this match.

  61. Mirra Andreeva has kept her word and is getting her revenge on coach Conchita Martinez!
  62. She promised to coach her in the invitational doubles and wave a big poster – and that’s exactly what she’s doing!
  63. “You’d better win this game!” she shouts. “You’re the best!”
  64. Andreeva is scheduled to play her quarter-final on Wednesday against Belinda Bencic.
  65. Sabalenka 3-6 6-2 2-3 Siegemund*
  66. Another sign of the anger and frustration that Aryna Sabalenka is feeling – she smacks the top of her net with her racquet after going wide with a forehand as she scampered forwards.
  67. Laura Siegemund keeps her honest after that, but misses chances to put away winners and Sabalenka wraps up the hold to get back to 3-2 behind.

  70. Taylor Fritz speaking to BBC Sport: “I’m feeling great. The match was going so well for me for two sets. I’ve never had a match flip so quickly, so I’m happy with how I came back. Momentum was not going to be on my side going into a fifth set.
  71. “He definitely started playing a bit better. I gave him a lot of hope with not the best game to start the third set. I’ve never had a match change so drastically where I felt so in control, serving great, putting pressure on his serve, and then I started making a ton of mistakes. I felt I couldn’t miss and then I started making a ton of mistakes. I had to fight to get that break back in the fourth and get the match back to neutral.”
  72. On his foot: “It’s totally fine. It’s pretty common. A lot of players do this tape job so your foot doesn’t get irritated. I just needed to get it re-done [at the end of the third set].”
  73. On reaching his first Wimbledon semi-final: “It’s an amazing feeling. Having played the quarter-finals here twice and lost in five twice, I don’t think I could’ve taken another one. I’m really happy.”
  74. On his career progression: “At the time [2021], I feel like my ranking was slipping. I was coming back from surgery and I wasn’t playing the level I felt like I should be playing. I’m happy with how I’ve turned my career around over the last four years or so.”

  80. It was coming.
  81. The umpire has been very generous out here. He is hugely experienced and he had been letting it go.
  82. It is not the first time Siegemund has had a time violation at this year’s championships.

  2. Two massive groundstrokes, the second a backhand down the line for a winner, bring up 0-30 for Aryna Sabalenka as he bids to strike straight back after losing serve.
  3. Two Sabalenka errors level up the score at 30-30, before the Belarusian is brought to her knees when she misses a passing shot down the line. She had more space than she probably thought and maybe tried to be a bit too cute with it, sending it a foot inside the tramlines.
  4. Siegemund nets from the next point – deuce.
  5. And now a time violation for Siegemund, who has been extremely deliberate while serving throughout this match. It’s been coming…

  7. Tracy Austin
  8. Two-time Grand Slam champion on BBC One
  9. That was an incredible point.

  13. The world number 104 breaks first in the deciding set!

  41. A booming baseline battle goes the way of Karen Khachanov as Taylor Fritz misfires a backhand wide of the tramline.
  42. The American puts the pressure back on his opponent with a mighty smash but Karen Khachanov stands firm to hold to 30.

  46. Both players are back on court and Aryna Sabalenka will serve first in the deciding set.

  52. I though she [Sabalenka] really used her composure in the second set to regroup.
  53. We’ve seen her just yell and scream at her team sometimes but she did well to figure it out against Siegemund.
  54. *Sabalenka 3-6 6-2 0-0 Siegemund
  55. Before this tournament, 37-year-old Laura Siegemund had earned a little over $6.9m (£5.1m) in prize money during her career.
  56. Aryna Sabalenka has won close to $6m (£4.4m) in 2025 alone.
  57. At the moment, there’s nothing to separate them in this Wimbledon quarter-final.
  58. Siegemund is still off court, so Sabalenka is practising her serve on Centre.
  59. Fritz 6-3 6-4 1-6 6-5 Khachanov*
  60. Another routine hold to love for Taylor Fritz.

  64. BBC Sport at Wimbledon
  65. Watching Aryna Sabalenka fight her emotions is fascinating.
  66. She – like me – has a face where no matter how hard she tries, whatever she is thinking or feeling is written all over it. She’s trying so hard to contain it, whether it’s frustration at her own game, that of Laura Siegemund’s or just general annoyance at life.
  67. It’s spilling over occasionally – she did a great double teapot when she missed her first set point – but she’s done well to keep a lid on it so far.

  72. Siegemund strikes me as someone who very quickly puts a point behind her that she’s lost. She walks away very quickly, turns her back on the point and starts to re-focus on what is ahead of her.
  73. *Sabalenka 4-6 6-2 0-0 Siegemund
  74. Aryna Sabalenka left the court at the end of the second set and was followed a short while later by Laura Siegemund.

  4. *Fritz 6-3 6-4 1-6 5-5 Khachanov
  5. Taylor Fritz was within touching distance of multiple match points. He moved quickly in to pounce on a forehand winner before Karen Khachanov blasts a forehand long for 0-30.
  6. However, he buries a tame forehand in the net before Karen Khachanov stretches for a forehand volley to level the game at 30-30.
  7. Winning the next two points to hold serve, Khachanov lets out a roar.
  8. *Sabalenka 4-6 6-2 0-0 Siegemund

  10. Aryna Sabalenka has levelled it up.
  11. Excellent response from the world number one, both to dropping a set down and then to Laura Siegemund breaking back early in the second.
  12. It’s a lengthy game but Sabalenka eventually breaks when Siegemund dumps one into the net.
  13. The top seed has to be the favourite from here. Siegemund has dropped a set for the first time at the Championships.
  14. Sabalenka 4-6 5-2 Siegemund*
  15. Tracy Austin
  16. Two-time Grand Slam champion on BBC One
  17. It is so fascinating to watch Laura Siegemund. She is a rhythm buster. You very rarely see her hit the same two shots in a row.
  18. Sabalenka has taken a bit of pace off her returns which allowed Siegemund to nail her drop shots.
  19. Sabalenka 4-6 5-2 Siegemund*
  20. Laura Siegemund is not the quickest between points and you can tell it is irritating Aryna Sabalenka a bit.
  21. However, she takes that frustration out on a vicious forehand, drive into the corner to save a game point.
  22. It all comes flooding back when she goes long on a set point, though.
  23. Fritz 6-3 6-4 1-6 5-4 Khachanov*
  24. Taylor Fritz has rediscovered his first serve and he’s rediscovered his range.
  25. He seals back-to-back holds to love with an emphatic smash at the net.
  26. *Fritz 6-3 6-4 1-6 4-4 Khachanov
  27. That’s an absolutely lovely shot – possibly the shot of the match so far.
  28. Karen Khachanov crouches down low to receive a cross-court backhand which just dipped over the net and responds with a cute sliced backhand drop shot for 30-0.
  29. A double-fault at 40-0 brings a rueful shake of the head but it’s a momentary blip.
  30. Reid 5-7 6-4 7-6 (10-6) Gerard
  31. Well done, Gordon Reid!
  32. The 2016 champion really showed his mettle in the final set, coming back from a break down at 5-3 to take the set and the match 10-6 in a champions tie-break against Belgium’s Joachim Gerard.
  33. It took nearly three hours but Great Britain’s Reid throws his racquet in delight after coming through a tough opening match against the 2021 winner of the men’s wheelchair singles.
  34. His reward? A quarter-final tie with fourth seed Gustavo Fernandez of Argentina.

  38. That game whistled by. Fritz holds to love, scarcely breaking a sweat.
  39. His first serve percentage, which was 38% in the third set, is a far healthier 81% in the fourth.

  41. Tracy Austin
  42. Two-time Grand Slam champion on BBC One
  43. What an effort from Sabalenka after some fatiguing points. It is tough to hit a winner against Siegemund because her anticipation is so good.
  44. These new balls are much sleeker and will be moving quicker through the air.
  45. *Fritz 6-3 6-4 1-6 3-3 Khachanov
  46. Eight strips of alternating dark and light grass make up each service box. One of Karen Khachanov’s serves is an entire strip wide.
  47. With an ugly cross-court heave which clips the line, Taylor Fritz pegs the score back to 30-15, but on the next point, Khachanov toys with him like a puppet on a string. He drags the American into the net with a drop shot before nailing an inch-perfect lob. Fritz gets his racquet on it but his return balloons long.
  48. Khachanov holds to 15.
  49. Sabalenka 4-6 5-2 Siegemund*
  50. Image source, PA Media
  51. Aryna Sabalenka is getting louder and louder on Centre Court and lets out a huge roar after saving a break point.
  52. What a point it was, too! Both players dragged this way and that before Sabalenka thumps an overhead smash beyond Laura Siegemund.
  53. A driven forehand then has too much for Siegemund and Sabalenka holds.
  54. *Sabalenka 4-6 4-2 Siegemund
  55. Sam Smith
  56. Former British number one on BBC One
  57. The tiger is roaring. It will feel good for Sabalenka to be hitting winners. I can’t believe she has not hit an ace in this entire match so far.
  58. Siegemund is under siege from Sabalenka in this game.
  59. Fritz 6-3 6-4 1-6 3-2 Khachanov*
  60. Three games in a row for Taylor Fritz.
  61. He holds to 30, sealing the game with an ace down the T.
  62. Sir Ian McKellen (or Gandalf to fans of the Lord of the Rings films) is keeping a close eye on proceedings from the Royal Box on Centre Court where top women’s seed Aryna Sabalenka is a set down to world number 104 Laura Siegemund…

  67. That is a massive game and it will give Sabalenka so much momentum.
  68. There is a huge power difference between the two players. Siegemund’s first serve is about 54 percent down the middle of the box.
  69. Sabalenka has taken a little bit of speed off her returns to make sure that more go in. She is looking for more consistency than power. Good patience from her.

  72. Big moment.
  73. Aryna Sabalenka comes back from 40-0 down to go a break up again in this second set.
  74. It’s frustration for Laura Siegemund, who double faulted to make it 40-15 and then failed to put away a passing shot at 40-30.
  75. Sabalenka uses her power well, though, and moves her opponent side to side before Siegemund’s backhand sails long to give the top seed the break.
  76. *Fritz 6-3 6-4 1-6 2-2 Khachanov
  77. We’re back on serve in the fourth set.
  78. Karen Khachanov saves the first break point but hits his backhand wide to give up the second. Taylor Fritz slipped a couple of times on the backhand side during that game and Khachanov lost the point both times.
  79. *Fritz 6-3 6-4 1-6 1-2 Khachanov
  80. Taylor Fritz is beginning to purr. A gorgeous down the line backhand gives him 0-15 before Karen Khachanov fails to capitalise on his opponent slipping, underhitting a cute shot into the net.
  81. The Russian hits back with an ace but now finds himself facing two break points.

  86. I don’t feel like Sabalenka is hitting her forehand very well – she is pushing it and it’s got no power. She is coming right up the back of the ball and it’s not doing any damage at all, it is giving Siegemund plenty of time down the other end.

  4. Lots of uncertainty and confusion in the crowd after the issue with the electronic line call system and there’s a few groans at the decision to replay the point.
  5. But this continues to be a worrying run for Taylor Fritz as he finds himself a break down at the start of a set once again.
  6. Fritz 6-3 6-4 1-6 1-2 Khachanov*
  7. Taylor Fritz’s movement doesn’t seem to be too impaired by the heavy strapping around his toes. He charges into the net to take a 30-15 lead.
  8. Karen Khachanov pulls it back to 40-30 but Fritz nails an ace to get on the board in the fourth set.

  12. Siegemund has no trouble with a backhand return. That’s an insane angle she was able to hit to get herself back to 40-30.
  13. If I was Sabalenka, I would take a little bit of pace off just to ensure that first serve.
  14. *Fritz 6-3 6-4 1-6 0-2 Khachanov
  15. Taylor Fritz rocks his head back in frustration as he buries a shot in the net to fall 30-0 behind.
  16. With an ace, Karen Khachanov is up 40-0 before Fritz hits the net again.
  17. Khachanov pumps his fist. Momentum has well and truly swung in his favour.
  18. Sabalenka 4-6 3-2 Siegemund*
  19. Aryna Sabalenka holds but nothing is coming easily for the world number one.
  20. It might not have felt that way when she swiftly got to 40-0 but Laura Siegemund slaps a backhand return down the line to make it 40-15 and in a flash, it’s deuce.
  21. Sabalenka manages to come through as Siegemund finds the net, though. An important hold.
  22. Fritz 6-3 6-4 1-6 0-1 Khachanov*
  23. Karen Khachanov only needs one of his two break points, with Taylor Fritz hitting wide.
  24. Khachanov has already won two five-setters (in rounds two and three) on his run to the last eight.
  25. *Fritz 6-3 6-4 1-6 0-0 Khachanov

  27. Taylor Fritz’s feet got quite a lot of attention during the break. He had the trainer out restrapping his toes.
  28. The second point of the game has to be replayed after a rogue interruption from the electronic line call system. The umpire calls it a “malfunction”.
  29. Karen Khachanov wins the replayed point and takes a 15-30 lead after his drop shot lures Fritz into the net and creates space for a passing shot.
  30. And now the American is facing two break points.

  34. What a start to this second set. Siegemund is throwing everything but the kitchen sink at Sabalenka.
  35. The slow balls are getting to the Belarusian. For her, you don’t want to show how distraught you are.
  36. *Sabalenka 4-6 2-2 Siegemund
  37. Laura Siegemund races to the net and puts the ball away for a winner to hold to love.
  38. She tumbles to the ground as she hits it, stopping just short of the net, but she won’t mind that.

  42. “Come on!” shouts Laura Siegemund as she gets the immediate break back.
  43. The German had earned two break points with another gorgeous drop shot and a backhand winner down the line but a pair of big serves from Aryna Sabalenka take it to deuce.
  44. Siegemund earns another, though, and when Sabalenka’s forehand drifts long, Richard E Grant is among those enthusiastically celebrating the break for the underdog.

  46. Gary Rose
  47. BBC Sport at Wimbledon
  48. I can only assume Taylor Fritz’s serve hopped off and went for a hotdog in that third set because it absolutely deserted him. What a bizarre capitulation after being so composed for two sets.
  49. With three of his four matches at Wimbledon so far going to at least four sets – and the other seeing his opponent retire – perhaps we should have known he’d have us hanging around here longer.
  50. *Fritz 6-3 6-4 1-6 0-0 Khachanov

  52. Karen Khachanov wastes no time in sealing the third set, racing to a 40-0 lead with a smashed winner at the net the pick of the shots.
  53. Taylor Fritz pulls it back to 40-15 but Khachanov is unfazed.
  54. That set took just 28 minutes and the trainer is coming on for Fritz.
  55. Paldanius 6-3 6-0 Hewitt
  56. Image source, Getty Images
  57. Seeing Cruz Hewitt – son of 2002 men’s singles champion Lleyton – playing on the same courts as his father this week will have made many suddenly feel quite old.
  58. On Sunday, the 16-year-old was victorious on his first appearance at Wimbledon when he beat Savva Rybkin 6-1 6-2 in the first round of the boy’s singles competition – 23 years after Lleyton won the men’s title.
  59. However, a dream-run on the famous grass courts at SW19 was not be for the teenager after he lost to Finland’s Oskari Paldanius in straight sets on Tuesday.
  60. I’m sure we will be hearing that name mentioned plenty more times around these grounds in the future.
  61. Fritz 6-3 6-4 1-5 Khachanov*
  62. Taylor Fritz needed that!
  63. He gave up the first advantage but gets a second bite at the cherry with a forehand winner down the line. He seals the game with a welcome ace and avoids the bagel.

  67. Superb from Aryna Sabalenka, she gets the break early in the second set.
  68. A few errors have just started to creep into Laura Siegemund’s game at the start of this set and a double fault puts her up against it at 0-30.
  69. Sabalenka earns break point and takes it with a delicate cross-court backhand that Siegemund can’t quite get to.
  70. *Fritz 6-3 6-4 0-5 Khachanov
  71. Taylor Fritz is in trouble again.
  72. A thumping backhand return is too much for the American and Karen Khachanov levels the game at 30-all. A similarly heartily struck forehand takes the game to deuce.

  76. Siegemund has not dropped a set in the Championship so far which is incredible. Her stats show such shot variation. She is using every inch of the court and Sabalenka never knows what is coming.
  77. Sabalenka is doing a great job of staying calm. We have seen her get very frustrated but she needs to keep driving the ball and not be reckless.
  78. Sabalenka 4-6 1-0 Siegemund*
  79. It’s a hold for Aryna Sabalenka but Laura Siegemund had her chances.
  80. At 15-30, the 37-year-old had options but went for the big forehand and sent it long.
  81. Then at 30-30, she overcooks a backhand return. Sabalenka happily accepts those gifts and holds to 30.

  90. It is so hard in those situations to take the scoreboard out of your mind but Siegemund did so well.
  91. That was a masterclass in tactics from the German. An incredible start from her. Sabalenka was playing catch-up the whole time.
  92. Siegemund needs to keep bringing a combination of shots and different speeds.

  2. Taylor Fritz is looking out of sorts.
  3. Up 15-0 on serve, he buries two routine forehands in the net. An ace brings the back to 30-all but Karen Khachanov forces deuce with a backhand down the line.

  7. What an inspired set of tennis from Laura Siegemund. She’s completely neutralised Aryna Sabalenka’s huge serve and it is frustrating the life out of the world number one.
  8. She has, perhaps not surprisingly, immediately gone off court for a reset.
  9. *Fritz 6-3 6-4 0-3 Khachanov
  10. He’s not missing by a lot but Taylor Fritz keeps hitting the wrong side of the baseline. He’s given up five unforced errors across the first three games.
  11. Karen Khachanov holds to 15 and in the blink of an eye, he’s up 3-0 in the third set.

  14. Laura Siegemund takes the first set!
  15. For the first time at this year’s Wimbledon, Aryna Sabalenka must respond to dropping a set.
  16. It’s a brilliant set from the German, she’s played this almost perfectly. Drop shots galore, plenty of slices but the precision to put away winners into the corners when the opportunities arise.
  17. The key point at this game comes at 15-0 with the pair exchanging drop shots before Siegemund goes for another and then gets into position to calmly put away the volley at the net.
  18. Few saw this coming. How will the top seed respond?
  19. Fritz 6-3 6-4 0-2 Khachanov*
  20. A huge roar from Karen Khachanov.
  21. Taylor Fritz saves the first break point but not the second. Khachanov has pounced early in the third set.

  23. Sam Smith
  24. Former British number one on BBC One
  25. Siegemund won’t be over-powering anyone with her serve but she is keeping her first serve percentage up high. Sabalenka is just managing to hang onto this first set.
  26. The crowd are loving the drama on Centre Court.
  27. *Fritz 6-3 6-4 0-1 Khachanov
  28. Taylor Fritz is struggling with his radar a little at the start of the third set, hitting the ball long on three occasions to find himself facing break points for the first time in the match.

  31. On we go in this first set.
  32. Aryna Sabalenka was pegged back to 30-30 but pushed on to get the hold she needed.
  33. Back over to Laura Siegemund. She’ll try to serve it out at the second time of asking.
  34. *Fritz 6-3 6-4 0-1 Khachanov
  35. After dropping his opening service game in the first set and facing break points at the same stage in the second, Karen Khachanov starts the third set with a routine hold to 15.
  36. *Sabalenka 3-5 Siegemund
  37. Tracy Austin
  38. Two-time Grand Slam champion on BBC One
  39. I hoped the nerves didn’t show up for Siegemund as she tried to serve out the set. Sabalenka definitely saw those nerves. Will there be a dip in quality for Siegemund for the rest of this set now?
  40. Five breaks in eight games is so unexpected for this match.
  41. *Sabalenka 3-5 Siegemund
  42. Aryna Sabalenka has not dropped a set yet in the tournament – and that is still the case for now.
  43. The 27-year-old gets a break back when Laura Siegemund’s lob goes long.
  44. Now the top seed will look to ramp up the pressure on her German opponent with a hold that would close the gap to a single game.
  45. Fritz 6-3 6-4 Khachanov*
  46. Gary Rose
  47. BBC Sport at Wimbledon
  48. More frustration for Karen Khachanov as he slaps his bag with his racquet as Taylor Fritz breezes to the second set.
  49. Fritz took 12 points in a row on his way to going 2-0 up and Khachanov has a mountain to climb.
  50. Sabalenka 2-5 Siegemund*
  51. Is the pressure just getting to Laura Siegemund with the first set within her grasp?
  52. A double fault hands Aryna Sabalenka three break points.

  54. Image source, Getty Images
  55. Karen Khachanov had only won seven points on Taylor Fritz’s serve before this game, so getting four more (at least) here to break looks a tall order.
  56. And so it proves. The tally is still seven.
  57. A backhand winner down the line from Fritz on set point and the American is one set away from a place in the semi-finals.
  58. *Reid 5-7 6-4 0-0 Gerard

  60. That’s more like it, Gordon Reid.
  61. The Brit is back on level-terms in this first-round men’s wheelchair singles match with 2021 champion Joachim Gerard.
  62. Reid had to do it the hard way in the end having been broken when serving for the set, but he immediately broke again in the next game to take it 6-4.
  63. Can the 2016 winner now complete the comeback and progress to the quarter-finals?

  65. Annabel Croft
  66. Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Live
  67. This tennis is absolutely mesmerising to watch, I don’t think Siegemund could be playing better than she is. It makes me wonder how she hasn’t got past the second round in any previous attempt at Wimbledon? She is a nightmare for anyone.
  68. She is creating enormous amounts of doubt for Sabalenka. She is unravelling down the other end.
  69. Sabalenka 2-5 Siegemund*
  70. Tracy Austin
  71. Two-time Grand Slam champion on BBC One
  72. Siegemund’s anticipation is a masterclass. This is incredible and her return quality is 9.3 today. She is having no trouble with Sabalenka’s power.
  73. She doesn’t have a big serve but she has slice on it so it stays down low.
  74. Sabalenka has really worked on her backhand slice, it’s a shot she didn’t hit that well a few years ago. I would like to see her take more of those high balls out of the air.
  75. *Fritz 6-3 5-4 Khachanov

  78. Karen Khachanov is regularly doing his best to motivate himself, saying a few words and pointing to his eyes to say focus, but then slams his towel down at the back of the court in frustration after giving up the first two points on his serve.
  79. It doesn’t get any better as Taylor Fritz gets the break and now has the second set firmly in his sights.
  80. *Fritz 6-3 5-4 Khachanov

  82. Taylor Fritz sends a backhand winner down the line and then gets a bit of luck with a net cord for 0-30.
  83. He gets a look at a second serve and it’s a good one from Karen Khachanov into the body – somehow Fritz gets it back into play and Khachanov eventually goes wide.
  84. Three break points – Fritz only needs one.
  85. The fifth seed will be serving for a two-set lead after the changeover.
  86. Sabalenka 2-5 Siegemund*

  88. Just brilliant from Laura Siegemund – the German breaks again and will serve for the first set.

  19. Important hold for Laura Siegemund – and, of course, she clinches it with a drop shot.
  20. Aryna Sabalenka has been trying to get on top and dominate the rallies but Siegemund is mixing it up well to put the world number one off her stride.
  21. It still gets to deuce, and there is no doubt Sabalenka has started to adapt to her opponent’s style, but Siegemund keeps herself a break up.
  22. *Fritz 6-3 3-4 Khachanov
  23. Taylor Fritz has had four break-point chances in this second set and taken none of them. That’ll annoy him.
  24. “New balls, please,” says the chair umpire.

  31. Taylor Fritz starts his latest service game with a lovely finessed forehand winner down the line. The tennis equivalent of the sidefoot with curl around the keeper into the far corner.
  32. And the American now has 0-30 on the Karen Khachanov serve…
  33. Sabalenka 2-3 Siegemund*
  34. Tracy Austin
  35. Two-time Grand Slam champion on BBC One
  36. Siegemund has just enough top-spin for control. She has lost a little bit of control with her slice so far. It is really tricky to receive a slice on grass, Sabalenka needs to a get bit lower. You have to be really alert when receiving that shot.
  37. Sabalenka has definitely improved at the net recently.
  38. Image source, BBC Sport
  39. Carlos Alcaraz has been practising with fellow quarter-finalist Ben Shelton on court 16. Alcaraz chatted to Spiderman actor Tom Holland after. The two men shook hands, and Holland wished Alcaraz good luck.

  45. Karen Khachanov shook his fist in the air as he took his seat at the changeover as this second set continues to go with serve.
  46. The Russian is serving better but still difficult to see how he breaks Taylor Fritz’s serve, but me writing that is usually a pathway to his opponent being broken in the next game…
  47. Sabalenka 2-3 Siegemund*
  48. Amy Lofthouse
  49. BBC Sport at Wimbledon
  50. Aryna Sabalenka made a real effort to get to the net more in that last service game, presumably to try and give Laura Siegemund a taste of her own medicine.
  51. Siegemund has got her towel over her head at the changeover – it is a warm one today.
  52. Sabalenka 2-3 Siegemund*
  53. Aryna Sabalenka holds for the first time.
  54. It’s far from comfortable for the Belarusian, though, as she has to get through multiple deuces.
  55. Laura Siegemund hangs in, continuing to play those tricky slices and drop shots but eventually Sabalenka gets it done with a smart volley at the net.
  56. *Fritz 6-3 2-3 Khachanov
  57. Ooof, that’s more like it from Karen Khachanov.
  58. One of his best shots of the match, a creamed backhand winner down the line, helps to keep us on serve in the second set on Court One.

  64. Pat Cash
  65. Former Wimbledon champion on BBC Radio 5 Live
  66. Interestingly, Sabalenka has gone up to the last few drop shots and drop shotted back. She is picking that up quite quickly, she was certainly fooled by the first few.
  67. It is a big part of Siegemund’s game so if Sabalenka can neutralise that and win some points, that is a big win for Sabalenka.
  68. *Sabalenka 1-3 Siegemund
  69. Tracy Austin
  70. Two-time Grand Slam champion on BBC One
  71. Sabalenka needs to counter the slices from Siegemund and use them as an excuse to get to the net. That will be an advantage for the world number one. The chip return from Siegmund is also an opportunity for Sabalenka to get ahead of the point.
  72. Aryna has certainly been the most consistent player in the WTA this year.
  73. *Sabalenka 1-3 Siegemund
  74. Image source, Getty Images
  75. There’s one break back for Aryna Sabalenka.
  76. Impressive response from the top seed as she races in to reach another Laura Siegemund drop shot and respond with one of her own.
  77. The German can’t get to it and that brings up three break points.
  78. Sabalenka only needs one, quickly getting on top in the point before firing a forehand into the open court with Siegemund well beaten.
  79. *Fritz 6-3 1-2 Khachanov
  80. Karen Khachanov finds a powerful backhand to wrap up the game and move narrowly in front once again in the second set.

  4. Siegemund has come out flying here. What an opening.
  5. She is looking very calm and is playing with the perfect offensive balance. You never know what is coming next from Siegemund, I would hate to play her. She has you on a string when she is playing her best.
  6. Sabalenka 0-3 Siegemund
  7. Annabel Croft
  8. Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Live
  9. It is really old fashioned, 80s style tennis from Siegemund. It is very intelligent and is outfoxing Sabalenka.
  10. Sabalenka normally walks tall around the court but she is looking a little deflated at the moment. She is trying not to get upset with herself, but you know she is bubbling under the surface.
  11. Sabalenka 0-3 Siegemund*
  12. Amy Lofthouse
  13. BBC Sport at Wimbledon
  14. The noise from the Centre Court crowd has gone up a notch after another stunning return winner from Laura Siegemund to go a double break up.
  15. It’s early days, but she just looks so much more confident right now than Aryna Sabalenka, who has already thrown a “what am I supposed to do?” shrug of the shoulders towards her box.
  16. Sabalenka 0-3 Siegemund*
  17. Image source, Reuters
  18. Goodness me, Laura Siegemund is flying in the opening exchanges!
  19. Another fabulous drop shot gets her started against the Aryna Sabalenka serve, that’s what we’ve come to expect from the German.
  20. She’s not really known for her power but a couple of brutal and perfectly-placed groundstrokes ensure the double break.
  21. The first an inside-out forehand that fizzes past Sabalenka before a remarkable return winner that has the top seed grasping at thin air.
  22. Fritz 6-3 1-1 Khachanov*
  23. While Karen Khachanov is being made to work very hard during his service games, Taylor Fritz is blitzing through his.
  24. *Fritz 6-3 0-1 Khachanov
  25. Karen Khachanov gets a bit of fortune with a net cord and that secures an important hold for the 17th seed, who desperately needed to avoid falling behind early in set two.
  26. *Sabalenka 0-2 Siegemund
  27. Tracy Austin
  28. Two-time Grand Slam champion on BBC One
  29. Siegemund’s movement is top-class. She is so nimble. She doesn’t have the power but she has the ability to defend. She makes you think so much because she is so unpredictable with what shot she plays.
  30. Sabalenka wants to be dictating and be hitting hard enough that Siegemund can’t be using all of her court craft.
  31. *Sabalenka 0-2 Siegemund
  32. Impressive hold for Laura Siegemund with Aryna Sabalenka pushing to break back immediately.
  33. The world number one forces a break point as she attacks the Siegemund forehand.
  34. But she a puts backhand into the net on break point and Siegemund is able to grind it out from there.
  35. Fritz 6-3 0-0 Khachanov*
  36. Marion Bartoli
  37. Former Wimbledon champion on BBC Radio 5 Live and BBC Sounds
  38. Total dominance from Taylor Fritz is because he is not missing a ball – only four unforced errors throughout the entire first set and 11 for Khachanov. The way he is striking the ball, he isn’t giving Khachanov a single opportunity for a break point. He had zero chance to win that first set.
  39. Fritz 6-3 0-0 Khachanov*
  40. Break point number three of the game saved – back to deuce.
  41. Fritz 6-3 0-0 Khachanov*
  42. Another break point for Karen Khachanov to save now, as the Russian goes long during another lengthy rally.
  43. Sabalenka 0-1 Siegemund*
  44. Amy Lofthouse
  45. BBC Sport at Wimbledon
  46. I’m never hugely convinced you can tell much from a warm-up, but when Aryna Sabalenka was hitting some practice serves, Laura Siegemund mullered two backhand return winners – almost exactly as she did just then to break the world number one in the first game.
  47. Sabalenka 0-1 Siegemund*
  48. Annabel Croft
  49. Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Live
  50. I think Siegemund already is [troubling Sabalenka]. She is chipping some of these returns and really nullifying the powerful service motion that she has. She is throwing in some horrible, nasty drop shots. She is a wily player.
  51. Fritz 6-3 0-0 Khachanov*
  52. Karen Khachanov saves the first break point by putting away a volley at the net, but Taylor Fritz will get a look at a second serve on the second break point…
  53. A lengthy rally ensues – and it’s Fritz who goes marginally long with a forehand.
  54. Deuce.
  55. Sabalenka 0-1 Siegemund*
  56. Image source, Reuters
  57. What a start for Laura Siegemund!
  58. The 37-year-old German makes it clear immediately to top seed Aryna Sabalenka that she’s in for a tough game.
  59. She uses drop shot to great effect and although Sabalenka is able to save one break point with a big serve down the T, Siegemund earns another with a marvellous cross-court passing shot.
  60. That’s followed up with a backhand winner, again cross-court, to give the Siegemund the early advantage.
  61. Fritz 6-3 0-0 Khachanov*
  62. Karen Khachanov dropped his opening service game in the first set and finds himself in danger again at the start of the second, some unforced errors gifting Taylor Fritz two break points…
  63. Fritz 6-3 0-0 Khachanov*
  64. Gary Rose
  65. BBC Sport at Wimbledon
  66. There were plenty of Americans wandering around the outside of Court One when I headed over here earlier and those that were fortunate enough to get a ticket to watch the action are being treat to an impressive display so far by Taylor Fritz.
  67. On this showing he’s in no mood for hanging about on the court anywhere near as long as he had in any of his previous full matches at this year’s Wimbledon.
  68. At the moment, it is hard to see how Karen Khachanov gets through Fritz’s serve.
  69. Fritz 6-3 0-0 Khachanov*
  70. Taylor Fritz gives away the first point with an unforced error but it’s plain sailing from there for the fifth seed, the highlight being a drilled backhand that clips the tramline on its way for a winner.
  71. 33 minutes played and Fritz is a set to the good.
  72. *Fritz 5-3 Khachanov

  74. Taylor Fritz was joined in the last eight by Ben Shelton yesterday, making this the second consecutive year that multiple American players have reached the men’s quarter-finals at Wimbledon. Fritz and Tommy Paul did so last year.
  75. Prior to 2024, the most recent time that multiple American men reached the quarter-finals at Wimbledon had been in 2000, when Andre Agassi, Jan-Michael Gambill and eventual champion Pete Sampras got to the last eight.
  76. It is also a fifth consecutive Grand Slam tournament with multiple American players in the men’s singles quarter-finals and it is the longest streak of Grand Slam events with multiple American men in the quarter-finals since the 1990s.
  77. Back to the action on Court One, where Karen Khachanov volleys a winner at the net to wrap up a service hold and ensure that Fritz will need to serve out the set himself.
  78. *Sabalenka 0-0 Siegemund
  79. End of the warm-up. They’re ready to go on Centre Court.
  80. Aryna Sabalenka to serve first.

  2. It was already a tough first-round task for Britain’s Gordon Reid in the men’s wheelchair singles coming up against the 2021 champion Joachim Gerard, and it has just become a bit more difficult.
  3. The 2016 winner was broken in the 11th game of the opening set and could not get the break back he needed to take it to a tie-break.
  4. All to do for Reid now as he goes a set down to Belgium’s Gerard.

  6. Fritz 5-2 Khachanov*
  7. Good, confident stuff from Taylor Fritz, who moves within one game of the first set.
  8. Karen Khachanov just hasn’t had a sniff on the American’s serve yet – Fritz has got 79% of first serves in and won 16 of the 19 points on his serve so far in this match.
  9. *Fritz 4-2 Khachanov
  10. Todd Woodbridge
  11. Former Wimbledon doubles champion on BBC One
  12. Fritz has such a good return. He stands a lot further back from the baseline than players usually do.
  13. You need to have peripheral vision and the ability to keep your eye on the ball and still be aware of what is going on on the other side of the court. Fritz has it, I’m not sure Khachanov does.
  14. Sabalenka v Siegemund
  15. Rapturous applause from the Centre Court crowd as Aryna Sabalenka and Laura Siegemund make their way onto the hallowed grass.
  16. Sabalenka wins the toss and elects to serve first.
  17. *Fritz 4-2 Khachanov
  18. The return game of Taylor Fritz is looking in decent order at the moment.
  19. He takes Karen Khachanov to deuce and almost gets an impossible pickup of a smash back into play, before Khachanov rounds things off with an ace.
  20. Sabalenka v Siegemund
  21. Amy Lofthouse
  22. BBC Sport at Wimbledon
  23. Laura Siegemund is a WTA Tour veteran – but before this year, she’d never gone beyond the second round of the Wimbledon singles.
  24. A brilliant doubles player, she has the type of craft and touch on the court that can drive players not unlike Aryna Sabalenka to distraction.
  25. Asked about her on-court habits in her presser this week, Siegemund said she just quite simply has “weird stuff going on” when she’s on court.
  26. “I’ve been doing it all my life. I was always slow, talking about time violations and stuff,” she said.
  27. “That’s nothing that just got invented now, you know. I’m pretty consistent with my weirdness that I have.”
  28. Fritz 4-1 Khachanov*
  29. Gary Rose
  30. BBC Sport at Wimbledon
  31. As expected, the Taylor Fritz serve is proving a powerful weapon, winning points on 92% of his first serves, with Karen Khachanov managing just 43% in comparison.
  32. Fritz has already hit four aces in five games so far and is looking very comfortable.
  33. Fritz 4-1 Khachanov*
  34. Todd Woodbridge
  35. Former Wimbledon doubles champion on BBC Two
  36. Fritz does not have as big a forehand as the likes of Alcaraz, but he is already creating a lot of damage here.
  37. Fritz looks good and fresh. His legs should have recovered from his previous big games. Getting a 4-1 lead means you are feeling good. Fritz likes this court too, he has won a number of matches here already.
  38. Sabalenka v Siegemund (13:30 BST)
  39. Media caption,
  40. Spirited Raducanu beaten by Sabalenka in tight contest
  41. Top seed Aryna Sabalenka was given a real test by Emma Raducanu in the fourth round but still came through in straight sets.
  42. The 27-year-old is yet to drop a set at this year’s Championships as she continues her bid for a first title on grass.
  43. Sabalenka has reached the semi-finals on her last two visits to Wimbledon, most recently in 2023, and after losing in the finals of the first two Grand Slams of the year, will be determined to go one better at SW19.
  44. Standing in her way is Laura Siegemund, who is competing in just her second major quarter-final – five years on from her first at Roland Garros.
  45. The 37-year-old German is also yet to drop a set en route to the last eight, beating Peyton Stearns, Leylah Fernandez, Australian Open champion Madison Keys and most recently Solana Sierra to get to this stage.
  46. If Siegemund can pull off another surprise win today, it would have to go down as the biggest shock of the lot.
  47. Fritz 4-1 Khachanov*
  48. BBC Two
  49. Taylor Fritz holds serve in double-quick time, again wrapping it up with an ace, to move 4-1 up.

  51. *Fritz 3-1 Khachanov
  52. John McEnroe
  53. Three-time Wimbledon singles champion on BBC Radio 5 Live’s ‘6-Love-6’
  54. Taylor Fritz himself asked John on Monday what trait he should look to improve the most in his game – except his volleys!
  55. When he hits a big groundstroke, he should be ready to move forward. He has great groundstrokes on both sides but he hesitates.
  56. The other thing is hitting his spots a little bit better on his second serve. His first serves are huge, but he just spins it in on his second serve at times.
  57. *Fritz 3-1 Khachanov
  58. Karen Khachanov gets 40-0 up and despite a couple of points going the way of his American opponent, an unreturnable serve down the T seals his first game of the match.
  59. The Russian still trails by a break in the opening set.
  60. Jess Anderson
  61. BBC Sport at Wimbledon
  62. Being out here has made me wonder who the Centre Court crowd will favour today.
  63. Carlos Alcaraz is certainly the star of the show here at SW19. But Cam Norrie is the home player.
  64. It could be interesting to see who will get the big backing.
  65. Fritz 3-0 Khachanov*
  66. Todd Woodbridge
  67. Former Wimbledon doubles champion on BBC Two
  68. This is a brilliant start for Fritz. Everything is coming out the middle of the strings and he is dictating the pressure back onto Khachanov.
  69. What’s impressive is his directional serving and the quality of it. 122 mph [serve] looks like a walk in the park for him.
  70. Caverzaschi 1-6 2-6 Hewett
  71. If you are just joining us, there has already been plenty of action around the grounds.
  72. Defending champion Alfie Hewett got his Wimbledon campaign off to a flying start, with the second-seeded Briton defeating Spain’s Daniel Caverzaschi in straight sets in under an hour.
  73. He will now face Zhenxu Ji of China in the quarter-finals.
  74. Take a look how Hewett got the defence of his men’s wheelchair singles title under way…

  78. A third ace of the match seals another service hold for Taylor Fritz, who has raced into a 3-0 lead.
  79. Surely any early nerves that might have been present will have been settled by that fast start.
  80. Norrie v Alcaraz
  81. John McEnroe
  82. Three-time Wimbledon singles champion on BBC Radio 5 Live’s ‘6-Love-6’
  83. Norrie has got to stick with it in terms of his concentration, and hope Alcaraz has a few lapses in concentration. My brother puts it in a nice way about Alcaraz – he can hit himself out of trouble but he can also hit himself into trouble.

  86. Karen Khachanov goes long and that’s an early break of serve for Taylor Fritz.
  87. Given how well the American has been serving in this tournament, that might already be a pivotal moment in this first set.
  88. Fritz 1-0 Khachanov*
  89. Karen Khachanov is given the runaround early in his first service game but is rewarded for his efforts by reaching a Taylor Fritz drop shot and angling it over the net for a winner.
  90. Moscow-born Khachanov is always playing catch-up though and is facing a break point…

  94. We could be in for a long ride here. Both have big serves, you can see that from their ace counts.
  95. Fritz has a little bit more variety in his game and his forehand down the line is a really impressive shot. That first game will settle his nerves.

  8. There was quite a breeze whipping around Court One yesterday but it is much calmer today, a little cool but sunshine and blue skies – perfect conditions for some tennis.
  9. Taylor Fritz will certainly appreciate them because he had to come through five sets in each of his first two matches here right when the temperatures were at their hottest.
  10. He should be pretty fresh for today after his opponent Jordan Thompson retired in their last-16 match.
  11. Fritz v Khachanov
  12. John McEnroe
  13. Three-time Wimbledon singles champion on BBC Radio 5 Live’s ‘6-Love-6’
  14. John was asked on Monday if this is best chance for a fellow American to reach the final and possibly win Wimbledon:
  15. I think the answer is yes. I think Fritz is going to beat Khachanov even though he has a losing record against him. Ben Shelton will look at Sinner and think he has something.
  16. Would I pick those two right now? No – I would stick with the top guns, but stranger things have happened.
  17. I think they have the best chance to win at the US Open [out of the four majors] because they would get the crowd support they need.
  18. I think Shelton is the most likely to win one, but Fritz is the most solid – he is the least likely to be beat by himself.

  21. Court 16 very quickly filled up as word has spread that Carlos Alcaraz is out here practising.
  22. He’s actually hitting with American Ben Shelton, who notably is a leftie, like Alcaraz’s opponent later today Cam Norrie.
  23. What a thing to stumble on.

  28. Americans have been starved of a male Grand Slam winner, with the man most recently winning one being Andy Roddick in 2003.
  29. At Wimbledon you have to go back even further, with Pete Sampras triumphing in 2000.
  30. A whole generation of Americans have grown up without seeing a men’s Grand Slam champ, so could this be the year that changes, with two Americans into the quarter-finals?
  31. “I hope so,” says American former world number 11 Sam Querrey. “But if I had to throw a wager on it I can’t see it with Sinner, Djokovic and Alcaraz.”
  32. Should Taylor Fritz win this match then he’s likely going to have to see off two of those giants of the game to win his first Grand Slam title.

  35. Taylor Fritz and Karen Khachanov are both seeking untrodden ground this afternoon – neither has reached the semi-final at Wimbledon before.
  36. Fritz is one of two Americans in the last eight, along with Ben Shelton, who beat Italian Lorenzo Sonego on Monday.
  37. Khachanov, meanwhile, is trying to break another barrier – he’s never beaten a top-five player in a Grand Slam in 10 previous attempts.
  38. Fritz is fifth in the world rankings as things stand, although a win will take him into the top four above British number one Jack Draper.
  39. The two players are going through their warm-ups on Court One and should be getting under way in a couple of minutes.
  40. Here’s a rundown of what happened on day eight of the Championships:
  • Grigor Dimitrov retired with a two-set lead against world number one Jannik Sinner after sustaining a pectoral muscle injury.
  • Seven-time champion Novak Djokovic came from a set down to beat Australia’s Alex de Minaur.
  • The Serb will next face Italy’s Flavio Cobolli, who overcame Croatia’s Marin Cilic in four sets.
  • Men’s 10th seed Ben Shelton beat Lorenzo Sonego in four after losing the first set to the Italian.
  • Five-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek reached the quarters for the second time after a straight-set win against Denmark’s Clara Tauson.
  • Russian teenager Mirra Andreeva beat America’s Emma Navarro in straight sets on her Centre Court debut to progress to the quarter-finals.

  5. Tuesday marks the start of the quarter-final stage in the singles.
  6. Here’s a look at what’s to come today:
  7. Centre Court

  2. As the days wear on, the field of Brits left in the competition is thinning out.
  3. But two British men have massive days ahead of them.
  4. Cameron Norrie faces defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the men’s quarter-finals on Centre Court, while Joe Salisbury partners Brazil’s Luisa Stefani in the mixed doubles semis.
  5. In the men’s wheelchair singles, defending champion Alfie Hewett has already booked his place in the second round with a straight-set win and Gordon Reid is looking to join him, he’s in action against Belgium’s Joachim Gerard right now on court three.
  6. Lucy Shuker will follow Reid, she plays Diede De Groot in the first round of the women’s wheelchair singles.

  8. We’ve reached the business end of the tournament now.
  9. It’s the first quarter-final day at Wimbledon and for all the ‘one match at a time’ talk, surely every player left in the singles draws has allowed themselves to think about walking out on Centre Court this weekend – even if just for a second?
  10. Among them is this year’s last British hope, Cameron Norrie. He is up against defending champion Carlos Alcaraz in the day’s second match on Centre.
  11. First up, though, it’s women’s top seed Aryna Sabalenka against Laura Siegemund of Germany. That starts at 13:30 BST and we’ll be building up to that very shortly.
  12. Meanwhile, the men’s quarters start on Court One with fifth seed American Taylor Fritz playing 17th seed Karen Khachanov – and they’re due to walk out any moment now.

  14. Great Britain’s Alfie Hewett is through to the second round of the wheelchair singles with a straight-set win over Spain’s Daniel Caverzaschi.
  15. The defending champion took the first set 6-1 before breaking Caverzaschi early in the second set and going on to secure it 6-2 to seal victory.
  16. He will play either Tom Egberink or Zhenxu Ji in the next round – they are currently playing a deciding set on court 17.
  17. Fellow Briton Gordon Reid is just about to start his first-round match against Belgium’s Joachim Gerard on court three, which you can watch via the stream at the top of this page.
  18. Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid were watching the Wimbledon action from the Royal Box on Saturday but now it is their turn to take to the court to defend their titles.
  19. Hewett, 27, won the wheelchair men’s singles title for the first time last year, while he and fellow Briton Reid claimed the men’s wheelchair doubles title for the sixth time.
  20. Hewett has just begun his title defence on court three against Spain’s Daniel Caverzaschi – and you can watch it live at the top of this page (UK only).
