Wednesday is back — and darker than ever.
The first season of the Emmy-winning series, which premiered in 2022, followed Wednesday Addams as she worked to solve a monster-sized mystery at Nevermore Academy. And according to titular star Jenna Ortega, Charles Addams’ iconic character is in for even more morbid fun in season 2.
“We’ve decided we want to lean into the horror aspect of the show a little bit more,” the actress told Elle Fanning in a June 2023 conversation for Variety’s Actors on Actors. “Because it is so lighthearted, and a show like this with vampires and werewolves and superpowers, you don’t want to take yourself too seriously.”
In addition to “ditching any romantic love interest for Wednesday,” per Ortega, Netflix also announced a new host of characters joining series regulars Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán. Steve Buscemi, Hayley Joel Osment and none other than Lady Gaga will make appearances in the upcoming installment.
Netflix is set to release the season in two batches, the first of which premiered on Wednesday, Aug. 6. Here’s everything to know about the Wednesday season 2 release schedule — including when new episodes will come out.

The first part of Wednesday’s sophomore season premiered on Aug. 6, and the second part will arrive on the streamer nearly a month later, on Sept. 3. Though the official synopsis was initially kept under wraps, creator Miles Millar revealed that Wednesday will be thrust into a “darker and more complex” supernatural mystery this season.
“Nothing is what it seems in Season 2,” Millar told Tudum in July 2025. “Wednesday goes into this season thinking she knows Nevermore. It’s the first time she’s returned to a school willingly. But as soon as she gets back, nothing happens that she’s expecting.”
He continued, “She thinks she’s going to be in control, that she knows where all the bodies are buried, and she doesn’t.”
In May 2025, Netflix released the first six minutes of season 2, which showed Wednesday restrained in a basement by her favorite childhood serial killer. The scene then rewinds six weeks to their first encounter, when the murderer (played by Osment) gives her a doll he crafted in her image.

Like the inaugural season, the second installment of Wednesday will also feature eight episodes. However, rather than releasing them all at once, Netflix has divided the show into two batches, each containing four episodes.
Though fans may have hoped for a larger number of installments in this season, there will be more Wednesday Addams (and the rest of the Addams family) in the future. Ahead of the season 2 premiere, Ortega and director Tim Burton announced in a July 2025 interview with The Hollywood Reporter that Wednesday has already been renewed for a third season — and that the show’s creators were eyeing a potential spinoff series.
“It’s something we’re definitely noodling; there are other characters we can look at,” Wednesday co-creator Alfred Gough told the outlet. Netflix chief content officer Bela Bajaria echoed, “There’s a lot to explore in the Addams Family.”

The official episode release schedule for season 2 of Wednesday is as follows:
- Aug. 6: Episodes 1-4
- Sept. 3: Episodes 5-8
Though fans can likely expect some kind of major cliffhanger with this episode schedule, the series’ creators haven’t given away much about what Wednesday faces at Nevermore Academy this season. Other than her family, of course.
“This year, we bring the family to Nevermore,” Burton told Tudum in July 2025. “Your family at school is the worst thing possible, isn’t it?”

New episodes for Wednesday season 2 were released on Aug. 6 at 3 a.m. ET/midnight PT, and will follow the same schedule on Sept. 3.
