Vikings Agree to Terms with Cornerback Byron Murphy, Jr.

EAGAN, Minn. — Byron Murphy, Jr., is staying in Minnesota.

The Vikings announced Monday they’ve agreed to terms with the cornerback, who was due to become a free agent when the New League Year opens Wednesday.

Murphy initially joined the Vikings as a free agent in 2023 after spending his first four NFL seasons in his home state of Arizona. A second-round draft pick by the Cardinals in 2019, the Scottsdale native started all 16 games as a rookie and totaled 78 tackles, 10 passes defensed and an interception that season.

Over the past two seasons for the Vikings, Murphy has tallied 138 tackles, including a career-high 81 in 2024. He also snagged career highs of six interceptions in 2024, which tied for third in the NFL, and 14 passes defensed. Murphy helped put the Packers away with a forced fumble at Lambeau Field in Week 4 en route to his first career Pro Bowl nod.

Murphy showed up at the all-star game, as well. After intercepting Patriots QB Drake Maye and helping the NFC defeat the AFC in the 2025 NFL Pro Bowl Games, he was named Pro Bowl Defensive MVP.

Re-signing with the Vikings means Murphy will play his third season in Defensive Coordinator Brian Flores’ system. He was part of a Vikings defense that led the NFL in interceptions last season with 24 and tied for third with a +12 turnover differential.

Murphy is one of four cornerbacks in the NFL since 2019 to amass at least 350 tackles and 14 interceptions.
