UPDATED: Thunderstorms knock out power to more than 80,000 across Northern Virginia

Update, 7:40 p.m. – Dominion Energy is reporting close to 80,000 customers without power in Northern Virginia, with about 54,000 of those in Fairfax County, 10,000 in Arlington, 5,000 in Alexandria and 3,000 in Stafford.

Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative, which originally reported more than 14,000 without power after the storms, had about 1,100 outages remaining.

Rappahannock Electric Cooperative reported about 5,000 still without power, with most of those in Culpeper, Fauquier and Rappahannock counties.

More than 80,000 customers are without power across the region after a strong line of thunderstorms moved through Thursday, bringing down trees and power lines.

As of 4:25 p.m., Dominion Energy reported 63,000 outages, with more than 40,000 of those in Fairfax County, 14,000 in Loudoun County, 4,500 in Fauquier County and 800 in Prince William County.

Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative reported nearly 10,000 outages, with 7,700 of those in Prince William County, 1,100 in Loudoun and 1,000 in Fauquier.

Rappahannock Electric Cooperative reported nearly 6,000 outages as of 4:30 p.m., with the majority in Culpeper and Fauquier counties.

The National Weather Service Sterling forecast office recorded a wind gust of 61 mph at Reagan National Airport as the line of storms moved through around 4 p.m.

A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect for the entire D.C. area through 9 p.m.
