Underwood and May to reunite in Ann Arbor

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (WCIA) — Illinois’s game against No. 15 Michigan will be much different than previous meetings, but will see a reunion of two head coaches.

The Wolverines are led by Dusty May, who took over the program before this season after five years at Florida Atlantic. During that time, May faced the Illini twice, winning a game in Champaign in his first season and losing at Madison Square Garden in his last season. During his first year in Ann Arbor, he has led Michigan to a 14-3 conference record and brought in impact players from his last team.

“They are extremely old,” said Illinois head coach Brad Underwood. “They’re playing very, very well together, you know, and they’re a team that offensively is very gifted, i think it starts with Vlad.”

Russian big man Vlad Goldin leads the Wolverines in scoring with 15.9 points per game, a fifth-year senior after spending four seasons with May’s Owls.

“I’m not really worried about what they bring, it’s more about us completing, you know our things we got to do,” said Illinois junior guard Tre White. “But they are a big team, so we’ve got to be aggressive with them, play fast with them.”

Illinois and Michigan will play on Sunday, March 2 at 2:45 p.m. at Michigan’s Crisler Center, with the game broadcast on WCIA.
