UNC emails show Bill Belichick’s girlfriend asking for social media intervention

Jordon Hudson, the 24-year-old girlfriend of UNC football coach Bill Belichick, does not hold an official title but appears to be a spokesperson of sorts for the six-time Super Bowl champion. Hudson, a competitor in Miss Maine USA after placing as runner-up in last year’s competition, spent most of the past few months ensuring Belichick’s first season in Chapel Hill results in an early home run from a PR standpoint.

In a story published earlier this week by The Athletic, Hudson’s correspondence with UNC shortly after Belichick’s hire includes wanting the Tar Heels to monitor negative comments on social media and avoid any nepotism connotations associated with the program’s hiring of Belichick’s son, Steve Belichick, as defensive coordinator. The emails became public through a records request.

Hudson asked UNC to skip over referring to Steve Belichick as “Bill’s son” and instead wanted his hire to be directed by his own merit in the coaching ranks.

“Is there anyone monitoring the UNC Football page for slanderous commentary and subsequently deleting it / blocking users that are harassing BB in the comments?” Hudson asked of the Tar Heels on Feb. 13, according to the 44 pages of emails obtained by The Athletic.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest football coaches of all time, Belichick holds the NFL the record of most Super Bowl wins as a head coach, all with the Patriots. Belichick has the most playoff coaching wins all-time with 31 and ranks third in regular-season coaching wins in the NFL with 302.

After a year away from the NFL, Belichick kicked the tires on potential college interests last fall. Part of Belichick’s interest in the Tar Heels’ open vacancy last coaching cycle were previous conversations he had with coaches in the ACC and other coaches from the SEC and Big Ten.

Belichick’s father, Steve, worked as an assistant football coach for the Tar Heels from 1953-55, when the ACC was formed as a league. Bill Belichick lived in Carrboro, N.C., as a child during that period and his father worked out of an assistant coach’s office at Woollen Gymnasium on UNC’s campus.
