No. 2 pick Travis Hunter made his NFL debut Saturday, starting the Jacksonville Jaguars’ preseason opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers and helping lead a scoring drive on his first series.
The two-way rookie, expected to contribute at wide receiver and cornerback, opened the game on offense, playing 92 percent of the first-team snaps (11 of 12) and not appearing with the second-team offense. On Jacksonville’s opening possession, Hunter made his first NFL catch on a 3-yard reception from Trevor Lawrence on third-and-4. Later in the drive, he hauled in a 7-yard gain that was negated by a penalty before converting third-and-12 with a 6-yard catch to set up a field goal. He finished with two receptions for 9 yards, playing 10 of 11 offensive snaps in that opening drive.
Hunter did not see time with the first-team defense during its lone series, but played 100 percent of the snaps with the second-team unit over the next two defensive drives.
Though Hunter’s debut was the headline early, kicker Cam Little stole the spotlight just before halftime. On the final play of the second quarter, Little drilled a 70-yard field goal — a distance never reached in an NFL game, regular season or preseason. The kick cut Pittsburgh’s lead to 14-9 and sent the Jaguars into the locker room buzzing, with teammates mobbing the rookie kicker in celebration.

For context, the official NFL record belongs to Justin Tucker, who made a 66-yarder for the Baltimore Ravens against the Detroit Lions in 2021. Little’s boot topped that by 4 yards but won’t go into the record books since it came in a preseason game.
