Police are warning drivers to expect lots of traffic Friday as throngs of people make their way to the Patriots game in Foxborough and a concert in Mansfield.
The New England Patriots will play their first preseason game at Gillette Stadium tonight, and former quarterback Tom Brady will be there for the unveiling of his bronze statue before the game. Meanwhile, over in Mansfield, Luke Bryan will be performing at the Xfinity Center.
“Now let’s talk traffic, it’s going to be heavy,” Foxborough police wrote in a Facebook post. “495 and 95 are expected to be at a standstill, with cars cutting through Foxboro to make it to both venues.”
Road closures and detours will be in place, and Foxborough police officers will be out to help with local traffic, while state troopers will handle traffic on Route 1.
“It’s going to be a great night and officers [will] be deployed on site to ensure that it’s a safe and secure environment for all,” police said.
The parking lots at Gillette Stadium open at 3:30 p.m., the statue ceremony starts at 6 p.m., and kickoff is 7:30 p.m., police said.
