Rangers 2, Giants 0
- Another close, low-scoring win. Kind of the theme for the team this season.
- Nathan Eovaldi came up big once more, giving the Rangers six shutout innings, with Chris Martin, Robert Garcia and Luke Jackson combining to cover the final three innings. Only one Giant made it past first base all game, and then, only because of a wild pitch.
- The Rangers pitchers also combined for 13 strikeouts while allowing just one walk. Eovaldi accounted for seven of them.
- This was the second straight day that Martin, Garcia and LuJack all pitched, and one would expect them to get at least one day off now, meaning the rest of the pen will have to carry the load for at least one game. One downside of winning as many close games as the Rangers have this year is that this trio of late game relievers has been carrying a heavy workload. Garcia is leading the majors in appearances, with 14, Martin has 13 appearances, and Jackson has 12, with the Rangers having played 26 games in all. That’s not something that’s sustainable over a full season.
- Wyatt Langford was the offensive star of the show, picking up three hits, doubling in Jake Burger (who had doubled to start the inning) for the Rangers’ first run hitting a ground rule double in the sixth, advancing Josh Smith, who had singled, to third where he was able to score on a Joc Pederson infield single.
- Pederson going 1 for 3 with a walk pushed his OPS on the season out of the 200s. He now has a 301 OPS.
- Langford, meanwhile, is sporting a snazzy .350/.429/.700 slash line on the year. That’ll play.
- Nathan Eovaldi reached 95.7 mph with his fastball. Chris Martin hit 95.8 mph with his fastball. Robert Garcia touched 95.4 mph with his fastball. Luke Jackson’s fastball maxed out at 94.9 mph.
- Jake Burger had a 112.1 mph double. Wyatt Langford had a 108.1 mph double and a 106.2 mph double. Josh Smith had a 101.6 mph ground out. Marcus Semien had a 100.2 mph fly out.
- I’d like more offense but I’m not going to complain about a victory.
