‘The Walking Dead’ and ‘Chicago Med’ actress dead at 33

Actress Kelley Mack, best known for her role as Addy in “The Walking Dead,” died last week at age 33.

On Monday, her family shared the news in a statement, revealing that Mack, whose real name is Kelley Klebenow, had “passed away peacefully” in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Saturday.

Mack’s cause of death was glioma of the central nervous system.

In January, the Cincinnati native revealed on Instagram that she had been diagnosed with diffuse midline glioma, an extremely rare type of astrocytoma cancer.

According to the National Cancer Institute, diffuse midline gliomas are central nervous system tumors that begin in the brain or spinal cord and are all grade 4 tumors, meaning they are fast-growing and malignant.

Mack wrote in this post that after having a biopsy surgery on her spinal cord, she lost function in her right leg and most of her left leg. In March, she shared an update, showing that she had finished radiation treatment.

Mack was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, and lived in several Ohio towns, as well as in Connecticut, Missouri, North Carolina, and Illinois. After earning a bachelor’s degree in cinematography from the Dodge College of Film at Chapman University in 2014, she moved to the Los Angeles area to find work.

Mack has 35 acting credits to her name. Besides playing Addy in “The Walking Dead,” she played Penelope Jacobs in “Chicago Med” and FOX’s “9-1-1.” Her movie roles include “Broadcast Signal Intrusion,” “Delicate Arch” and the upcoming film “Universal.” Mack also did voice-over work and commercials, including in “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.”

On Tuesday, Mack’s sister Kathryn posted about Mack’s death on her Instagram.

“It is with indelible sadness that we are announcing the passing of our dear Kelley. Such a bright, fervent light has transitioned to the beyond, where we all eventually must go,” Kathryn wrote. “She will be missed by so many to depths that words cannot express.”

Mack is survived by her mother and father, Kristen and Lindsay Klebenow; her sister, Kathryn; her brother, Parker; her grandmother and grandfather, Lois and Larry Klebenow; and her boyfriend, Logan Lanier.
