Despite the countless upsets throughout the tournament, seven of the eight quarter-finalists are from the 32-strong seeded field. The exception to that is Cameron Norrie, the last remaining British player who is into his second Wimbledon quarter-final.
He faces an enticing encounter: up against double defending champion Alcaraz, but with the backing of the Centre Court crowd. The other men’s tie of the day sees USA’s Taylor Fritz take on Olympic doubles silver medallist Karen Khachanov, both vying for a maiden final four appearance in SW19.
Elsewhere, seven-time Wimbledon champion Djokovic is into a 16th career quarter-final at the grass Slam tournament, coming from behind to beat Alex de Minaur in the fourth round. His next opponent is a 23-year-old Italian – not Sinner yet, rather debut major quarter-finalist Flavio Cobolli.
In the top quarter of the draw, world number 10 Ben Shelton will take on top seed Jannik Sinner in the final eight. The latter’s match was curtailed when, trailing 3-6, 5-7, 2-2, his opponent Grigor Dimitrov retired with an injury with two hours on the clock.
