Skylar Diggins addresses dropping ‘Smith’ from last name

Storm guard Skylar Diggins is dropping the “Smith” from her last name.

Bella Valeriano Munson of The Next recently confirmed the name change after Seattle released some team content ahead of the season that did not feature Diggins’ typical moniker. Many fans noticed that the veteran guard was simply listed as Skylar Diggins. However, there wasn’t an official announcement by the team or by Diggins confirming the change.

WNBA: Dominique Malonga’s absence from WNBA training camp isn’t a big deal

She recently addressed the switch during media availability with the Storm when a media member politely inquired about her name plate. “Yes, it does say Skylar Diggins,” the Storm guard said. “I would like to be addressed by that moving forward.”

Diggins then took a moment to reflect on what she’s focused on right now (being a good teammate and a good home), before dropping a timely joke. “It won’t change for none of y’all anyways,” she said. “Some of y’all just call me whatever y’all wanna call me anyways.”

Truthfully, Diggins doesn’t owe anyone an explanation about her name change. But shoutout to the media member who respectfully asked her about it and gave her the space to address it.
