After losing five straight games and 11 of their last 13 just before Thursday’s trade deadline, the San Francisco Giants have started to trade away key contributors.
The Giants are sending right-handed reliever Tyler Rogers to the New York Mets, according to multiple reports. The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal was first to report. The Giants are receiving MLB reliever Jose Butto and prospects Blade Tidwell and Drew Gilbert in the deal.

The losing skid has led the Giants to consider trading away some pieces from their bullpen, which has been one of the best in baseball, ahead of the deadline at 3 p.m. Pacific on Thursday. Closer Camilo Doval is also reportedly on the trade block, with several teams interested in a deal.
MLB.com’s prospect rankings have Tidwell as the Mets’ No. 10 prospect and Gilbert at No. 12. Both players are 24 years old, playing in Triple-A and were top picks in the 2022 MLB Draft, with Tidwell selected in the second round by the Mets. Gilbert was a first-round pick by the Astros but was sent to New York in a trade for Justin Verlander (who, coincidentally, is now with the Giants). Butto has gone 3-2 with a 3.64 ERA in 47 innings this season with the Mets as a depth bullpen piece.
Rogers, 34, has been with the Giants organization since he was a 10th round pick in 2013 and made his MLB debut in 2019. The submarine-style pitcher has been a bullpen stalwart ever since, with a career ERA of 2.79 in 396.2 innings pitched. He’s also led MLB in games pitched in three seasons (2020, 2021, 2024) and was leading again in 2025 at the time of the trade. He is set to become a free agent for the first time in his career after the 2025 season.
Rogers also got to spend two seasons pitching with the Giants alongside his twin brother, Taylor. The Giants shipped Taylor Rogers to the Cincinnati Reds in the offseason. Taylor Rogers was also traded on Wednesday, being dealt from Cincinnati to the Pittsburgh Pirates just a little before the Giants traded Tyler Rogers.
