Severe Thunderstorm Warning: System capable of ‘torrential’ rain heads toward Chicagoland

CHICAGO (WGN) — The National Weather Service on Thursday warned of the possibility of “torrential” rainfall as a line of storms marched toward the metro area.

Severe Thunderstorm Warnings have been issued for multiple counties in Northeast Illinois and Northwest Indiana.

Up to 70 mph wind gusts are possible. The storm has picked up speed, moving east at 50 mph.

The storm threat brings the potential for damaging winds and heavy rainfall increasing the possibility of localized flash flooding.
