Sam Hauser sets new Boston Celtics record in Jazz win

BOSTON — Sam Hauser navigated some shooting struggles early Monday, just making one of his first seven 3-pointers on the night. Hauser got consistently good looks against the Jazz, they just weren’t going down. At least to start the night.

But that quickly changed Monday at TD Garden — to the tune of a new Celtics record. Hauser went a blistering 7-for-10 from 3-point land in the third quarter alone. The seven makes from deep set a new C’s record for made 3-pointers in one quarter. Hauser also single-handedly outscored the Jazz 23-22 in the third quarter.

“Sometimes you just get in that flow state or that rhythm,” Hauser said. “Every shot you take feels like it’s going in and it feels like you have a good chance to make every shot you take. So that’s about all I can say about that.”

Hauser had a career night Monday as the Celtics fended off the Jazz down the stretch. Hauser finished with a career-high 33 points and six rebounds, shooting 11-for-23 from the floor. He also shot 9-for-19 on 3s on the night as he let them fly throughout Monday’s game.

It’s been an overall frustrating season for Hauser as he’s dealt with nagging injuries. He came into Monday’s game averaging 7.3 points and 3.0 rebounds in 54 games (12 starts) for the C’s this season. He’s also heated up of late, knocking down 39.6% of his 3s on the season, and Monday’s shooting performance doesn’t hurt.

The Celtics have set new NBA records of late. Recently, Derrick White and Payton Pritchard became the first NBA duo to each make at least nine 3-pointers in the same game. That performance came last week in the win over the Blazers.

“Running in transition, trying to find a window,” Hauser said. “These guys are finding me, though. They’re looking for me. I feel like a lot of us do a really good job of whoever’s hot, just trying to find them and get a couple more up. In the third quarter, they were really finding me and I was just trying to make that decision for them pay off.”
