The Sacramento Kings are finalizing a multi-year deal to retain Doug Christie as the team’s head coach, sources close to the negotiation confirmed to KCRA 3 on Tuesday.Christie has been the interim head coach since Mike Brown was fired in December. The team went 27-24 with Christie at the helm, but failed to make it out of the Play-In Tournament. Previously an assistant coach for the Kings since 2021, Christie also played for the team during their golden era run from 2000-2005. ESPN’s Shams Charania first reported the news that he’d been elevated to head coach.The Kings’ new general manager, Scott Perry, said last week that he had planned to make his head coaching decision within a “week or so.” He said Christie was one of the first people he met with after arriving in town and said he admired him. “I watched him this year from afar in terms of his ability to have a presence on the court. I think he has made a connection with players,” Perry said.But Perry also said his phone has been “incessantly” ringing from others who were interested in the job. He said he planned to have “a few more conversations” before making his decision.
