Rock legend postpones another concert after hospitalization, has Covid

A legendary rock guitarist has postponed another concert after being hospitalized this week.

Carlos Santana tested positive for Covid, his manager announced Wednesday night. Santana’s performance scheduled for Wednesday at the Smart Financial Center in Sugar Land, Texas, will be rescheduled.

Santana, 77, had previously postponed a concert Tuesday in San Antonio after collapsing during soundcheck.

“Carlos experienced dehydration yesterday, and has since tested positive for Covid,” manager Michael Vrionis said. “I am happy to report that Carlos is doing well and will be back on his US Tour this Friday in Thackerville, OK. We appreciate everyone’s well wishes and concern. Carlos is looking forward to seeing you all very soon.”

New dates in Sugar Land and San Antonio will be announced later, Vrionis said. Despite testing positive for Covid, Santana is still expected to perform Friday in Oklahoma.

The band Santana has another 50 concerts scheduled this year. None are in Upstate New York.

Carlos Santana has faced several health issues in recent years. He had heart surgery in 2021 and collapsed onstage at a 2022 concert in Detroit due to heat exhaustion and dehydration. Earlier this year, he delayed the start of a Las Vegas residency after suffering a fall at his home, injuring his pinkie finger.

Santana, the leader of his eponymous band, is a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame guitar player who first rose to fame with his performance at the original Woodstock festival. His hits include “Evil Ways,” “Smooth,” “Soul Sacrifice,” “Black Magic Woman” and “Put Your Lights On.” He most recently released “Sentient,” a compilation featuring collaborations with Michael Jackson, Smokey Robinson, Miles Davis and Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, plus three previously unreleased tracks.
