WASHINGTON — Reba McEntire is mourning her former stepson Brandon Blackstock following his death at the age of 48.
On Tuesday, McEntire shared a tribute on social media, saying there was “no one else like him.”
“Last week, my stepson/oldest son Brandon Blackstock went home to be with God. His struggle is over and he is in eternal peace in God’s presence,” the country music icon described. “There is no one else like him, and I’m thankful for the time we had together. His legacy and laughter will be carried on through his family. Rest in peace cowboy. Happy trails to you til we meet again.”
McEntire was married to Blackstock’s father, Narvel Blackstock, from 1989 until 2015.
Several major music stars including Wynonna Judd, John Legend and Kristin Chenoweth passed along their condolences in the comments of Reba’s Instagram post.
Brandon Blackstock died at his home in Butte, Montana, on August 7 after a years-long battle with cancer. His cause of death was melanoma, according to the Silver Bow county coroner.
The music manager had been married to singer and talk show host Kelly Clarkson from 2013 until they split in 2020. They were officially divorced in 2022. While married, the couple had two children. Blackstock also has two children from his previous marriage to Melissa Ashworth.
His obituary revealed that Blackstock was in a relationship with Clarkson’s former production assistant when he died. Brittney Marie Jones was described in the obituary as his “partner in life and business.” According to PEOPLE, and other outlets, she worked as Clarkson’s production assistant from 2016 to 2018.
