Rams snap counts: How much did everyone play in LA’s preseason opener?

The first preseason game is always a telling one because it gives us a good look at how the coaching staff views specific players. If Sean McVay holds someone out of action entirely, it’s a sign he’s secured a roster spot already.

If a player starts the game and only plays a handful of snaps, that’s also a good indication for him. While it’s impossible to know with certainty why a player played as much as he did, we can make some educated guesses based on the depth chart.

Here’s a look at the snap counts from the Los Angeles Rams’ preseason win over the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday, breaking things down by offense and defense.

Notables who did not play: Nate Landman, Omar Speights, Warren McClendon Jr., Jordan Whittington, Tyler Davis

Stetson Bennett played all but six snaps as Dresser Winn came in to wrap things up with a few handoffs and kneel-downs.

The Rams played nine different linemen in this one, with A.J. Arcuri, Wyatt Bowles, Beaux Limmer, Justin Dedich and David Quessenberry getting the start. KT Leveston played left tackle, so the Rams see him at that spot instead of guard.

Blake Corum started and played 22 snaps before Jarquez Hunter came in as the second back and played 27 snaps. Ronnie Rivers got hurt after just three snaps and Cody Schrader rushed for 59 yards in just nine plays.

Konata Mumpfield played the most of any receiver despite suffering an ankle injury late in the game. Drake Stoops and Britain Covey also got long looks at that position.

Davis Allen started at tight end but played only 12 snaps before Anthony Torres and Mark Redman took over.

Shaun Dolac and Chris Paul Jr. got long looks at linebacker and both played well. Elias Neal and Tony Fields also contributed at that position.

At edge rusher, it’s notable that Keir Thomas only played six snaps after getting the start, a sign that he’s in good standing with the coaching staff. Nick Hampton was the ther starter and played 27 snaps but was ineffective as a pass rusher.

On the defensive line, there was a deep rotation of players, but none of them really stood out. Desjuan Johnson played the most in that group as he looks to make the team once again.

Shaun Jolly, A.J. Green and Derion Kendrick were the cornerbacks who played the most, which may not be a great sign for them. Cam Lampkin and Charles Woods were the other corners to contribute and both had good days.

Josh Wallace is listed as a cornerback but the Rams played him at safety and he performed well in the win. Nate Valcarcel was a real standout in the group, too.
