Jonah Jackson’s tenure with the Los Angeles Rams is ending after one season. Jackson, who signed a three-year, $51 million deal in free agency last year, is being traded to the Chicago Bears.
In return, the Rams will receive a sixth-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft. The trade is not yet official and can’t be processed until the start of the new league year on March 12, but Jackson has found a new home after just one year in L.A.
The Rams signed Jackson to be their starting left guard last offseason and planned to move Steve Avila to center. Things didn’t work out that way and Jackson dealt with a shoulder injury that caused him to miss the early portion of the season.
After returning from IR, he took over at center but was benched following just one start. Beaux Limmer remained the starting center for the rest of the season.
Jackson leaves behind $11.3 million in dead money but the Rams get a net savings of $3.3 million by trading him to Chicago. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Bears are taking on all of Jackson’s salary, so the Rams did not have to pay any additional money to facilitate a trade.
Looking ahead, Limmer is the favorite to start at center in 2025, though the Rams could bring in some competition at that spot.
