For every bit of good news this free agency the Raiders, there seems to be a couple pieces of bad news. The latest being possibly the worst news so far. And that’s the departure of Nate Hobbs.
The 25-year-old has been the Raiders’ starting slot corner since day one after they landed him in the fifth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. And the hasn’t been a time since then that he wasn’t their best cornerback.
That time has now come to an end as Hobbs has agreed to terms with the Packers on a four-year, $48 million deal which includes $16 million guaranteed according to ESPN’s Tom Pelissero.
This should be seen as a sizable loss for the Raiders as Hobbs was a fiery presence on the field and a popular teammate as well. He had a rare combination of coverage ability in the slot and strong tackling and will be tough to replace adequately at that job.
The Raiders still have outside cornerbacks Jakorian Bennett and Jack Jones under contract for next season.
