Purdue’s Boilermaker Special involved in fatal crash on U.S. 52

TIPPECANOE COUNTY, Ind. — One person is dead following a crash involving an iconic Purdue University vehicle.

The Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office confirmed to 13News the Boilermaker Special was involved in the crash on U.S. 52 at Wyandotte Road around 4 p.m. Thursday. 

Police say the vehicle was traveling north on U.S. 52 when it crossed the center line for an unknown reason and struck a car that was traveling southbound. 

The only person in the southbound car was pronounced dead at the scene. That person’s name is being withheld, pending notification of family members. 

Two people who were in the Boilermaker Special, who are Purdue students, were taken to the hospital as a precaution. A Purdue spokesperson said they were both released from the hospital Thursday evening.
