The Tenneesse Titans have signed wide receiver Tyler Lockett to a one-year contract, he announced on his social media.
While the Steelers do not currently have a huge need at wide receiver, if they were to move on from George Pickens or seek a quick separator, Lockett could have been an option for them.
The Seattle Seahawks cut Lockett back in March after retooling their team and signing Cooper Kupp to replace him. Before Pittsburgh had traded for DK Metcalf, Lockett seemed like a much likelier option.
Lockett, 32, played in all 17 games but had just 600 receiving yards on 49 receptions this last season. That was his worst season since 2017. Along with the emergence of Jaxon Smith-Njigba, the Seahawks decided it was time to move on.
The Steelers’ signing Lockett would have been just a patchwork solution to a long-term idea, but Aaron Rodgers loves using 11 personnel and three wide receivers. That could have made Lockett an appealing slot wide receiver option to pair with Calvin Austin III and Roman Wilson.
Lockett is a three-time All-Pro and Pro Bowler and has over 8500 receiving yards throughout a solid career with the Seahawks. On top of that, he has over 4000 return yards, though that part of his game has faded with age.
Now, he will head to Nashville to play with likely first overall pick Cam Ward at the helm of the Titans’ offense as they turn over a new leaf.
