ForbesNYT ‘Connections’ Today: Hints And Answers For Tuesday, March 4By Kris HoltIt’s Wednesday, and you know what that means: it’s time for another round of Connections!

An updated version of pretty much my favorite game of all time hit PS5 last week, and that news filled my entire heart. I’ve already used Sayonara Wild Hearts as a recommendation in this here column, so I won’t do that again.

I just want to highlight that, while I think it’s important for us all to regularly have new experiences, it’s still fulfilling to re-experience something we cherish dearly for the first time in a while.

It had been a hot minute since my last playthrough of Sayonara Wild Hearts. It only takes about 60-90 minutes to finish the main story and every moment is magical. I loved going back to it once again. It was also the perfect first game to play on my new PlayStation Portal (a device you can use to play PS5 remotely or stream games from the cloud).

A+ experience, would begin again. My love for this game and its incredible soundtrack knows no bounds.

Before we begin, I’ve set up a discussion group for NYT Connections and this column on Discord. We have a great little community over there and we chat about more than NYT games. Everyone who has joined has been lovely. It’s a fun hangout spot.

It’s also the best way to give me any feedback about the column, especially on the rare(!) occasions that I mess something up since I don’t look at the comments or Twitter much.

Today’s NYT Connections hints and answers for Wednesday, March 5, are coming right up.

How To Play Connections

Connections is a free, popular New York Times daily word game. You get a new puzzle at midnight every day. You can play on the NYT website or Games app.

You’re presented with a grid of 16 words. Your task is to arrange them into four groups of four by figuring out the links between them. The groups could be things like items you can click, names for research study participants or words preceded by a body part.

There’s only one solution for each puzzle, and you’ll need to be careful when it comes to words that might fit into more than one category. You can shuffle the words to perhaps help you see links between them.

Each group is color coded. The yellow group is usually the easiest to figure out, blue and green fall in the middle, and the purple group is usually the most difficult one. The purple group often involves wordplay.

Select four words you think go together and press Submit. If you make a guess and you’re incorrect, you’ll lose a life. If you’re close to having a correct group, you might see a message telling you that you’re one word away from getting it right, but you’ll still need to figure out which one to swap.

If you make four mistakes, it’s game over. Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen with the help of some hints, and, if you’re really struggling, today’s Connections answers. As with Wordle and other similar games, it’s easy to share results with your friends on social media and group chats.

If you have an NYT All Access or Games subscription, you can access the publication’s Connections archive. This includes every previous game of Connections, so you can go back and play any of those that you have missed.

Aside from the first 60 games or so, you should be able to find my hints for each grid via Google if you need them! Just click here and add the date of the game for which you need clues or the answers to the search query.

What Are Today’s Connections Answers?

Spoiler alert! Don’t scroll any further down the page until you’re ready to find out today’s Connections answers.

This is your final warning!

Today’s Connections answers are…

  • Yellow group — periphery (BORDER, EDGE, FRINGE, SKIRT)
  • Green group — things people to do fingernails (BITE, CLIP, FILE, PAINT)
  • Blue group — what might bring tears to your eyes (ALLERGY, MELODRAMA, ONION, RELIEF)
  • Purple group — _____ ball recreational sports (DODGE, KICK, PICKLE, SOFT)

No perfect game today, but I’ve reached eight wins in a row. Here’s how I fared:

I utterly loathe the taste of ONION. Seeing BITE precede that on the initial grid made me think of biting into a whole, raw ONION and I would rather die. (I hate PICKLEs too, for that matter).

Anyway, the yellows jumped out at me, so I squared those away with no issue.

I didn’t know where to go from there, though. MELODRAMA didn’t appear to fit with anything else, so I figured that had to be a purple. PICKLE has popped up a few times in recent games, so I figured we had to be looking at a different meaning.

That’s when the purples kicked for me, even though I still don’t really know what pickleball is or why it has such a gross name. (I accidentally included MELODRAMA instead of DODGE on my first guess. Whoops!)

I then made a random guess of PAINT, BITE, FILE and REMIEF, which put me one away from a group. The greens then made sense to me. I’m not sure I would have figured out the blues even though just the thought of an ONION might be enough to draw tears of angst from me.

That’s all there is to it for today’s Connections clues and answers. Be sure to check my blog tomorrow for hints and the solution for Thursday’s game if you need them.

P.S. It’s too early to give the entire thing a formal recommendation since I’ve only watched one episode, but I just started The Leftovers. The pilot had me welling up, so it seems appropriate to mention given the blues today.

The premise of the show is that, without warning, 2% of the global population vanishes in an instant. No one knows how or why, even years after the incident. How this event is portrayed in the prologue is devastating, as a mother is preparing to drive off over a grocery store visit only to find that her infant has disappeared.

There are several other emotionally affecting moments of throughout the episode. The show appears to be heavy and bleak, but I’m going to stick with it and see where this ride takes me:

Have a great day! Stay hydrated! Call someone you love!
