WELL, HAPPENING RIGHT NOW. CHECK THIS OUT. CARNIVAL KICKOFF ACROSS SOUTHEAST LOUISIANA WITH NONSTOP REVELRY AND PAGEANTRY SCHEDULED FOR THE NEXT FOUR DAYS. RIGHT NOW, PARADES ARE ROLLING UPTOWN AND ON THE NORTH SHORE, WITH PARADE GOERS GEARING UP FOR THE LONG WEEKEND STRETCH OF EXCITEMENT AND THE EVENT OF THE YEAR. THE ZULU CORONATION BALL IS IN FULL SWING. WE HAVE TEAM COVERAGE ON ALL OF THESE ACTIVITIES, BUT FIRST LET’S CHECK IN WITH WDSU REPORTER JASMINE FRANKLIN. SHE IS LIVE ALONG THE SAINT CHARLES AVENUE ROUTE WITH SOME NEW THROWS YOU’VE GOT THERE WITH YOU. TO BE A LITTLE MORE FESTIVE. JASMINE. YES. SO THIS IS JUST ONE OF THE THROWS I GOT FROM FRIENDS I MADE AT THE PARADE IN THE UPTOWN AREA. KIDS OF ALL AGES ENJOY CELEBRATING MARDI GRAS, AND AS YOU CAN SEE, PEOPLE ARE STILL OUT HERE CELEBRATING ALL THE PARADES ROLLING THROUGH NEW ORLEANS TODAY. THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE CHEERING IN THE STREETS, REACHING TOWARDS FLOATS FOR BEADS AND THROWS WAS JUDITH POTTS, WHO, CELEBRATING HER 90TH BIRTHDAY. I LOVE MARDI GRAS. IT’S THE CULTURE OF THE CITY. I MEAN, WHERE ELSE CAN YOU LIVE AND HAVE SO MUCH FUN? JUDITH SAYS MARDI GRAS IS HER FAVORITE TIME OF YEAR, AND HER CARNIVAL SPIRIT IS JUST GETTING BETTER WITH AGE. I’M NOT SURE THAT I’M YOUNGER THAN SHE IS, FRANKLY, I SEE HER GOING AROUND AT THESE PARADES AND IT’S LIKE, WHOA, AM I THE ONE WHO’S 90? FROM NINE MONTHS TO 90 YEARS? PEOPLE OF ALL AGES FILLED THE UPTOWN PARADE ROUTE TO SEE CREWS ROLL. YES! OH MY GOD, I’M EXCITED TO CATCH A RUBBER CHICKEN. BUT SEEING THE CITY AND SEEING HOW EXCITED EVERYBODY GETS, JUST BEING HERE AND JUST SEEING THE BANDS AND THE FLOATS, IT’S JUST IT’S ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE. AND MANY CAME TO FEEL THE RHYTHM AND HEAR BEATS AS MARCHING BANDS PERFORMED. OH, SO MUCH FUN. IT’S SO FUN. I LOVE THE BANDS. IT’S MY FAVORITE PART. LIKE, EVER. PEOPLE SECURED THEIR SPOTS ALONG THE UPTOWN PARADE ROUTE HOURS IN ADVANCE JUST TO SEE THE BRIGHT, DECORATED FLOATS PASSED BY. IT’S FUN JUST TO CELEBRATE BEING NEW ORLEANS AND JUST HAVING FUN. NEW ORLEANIANS LIKE JUDITH POTTS ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO CELEBRATING MARDI GRAS FOR YEARS TO COME. NEW ORLEANS IT’S IT’S A VERY SPECIAL PLACE TO BE. AND IT HAS A SPECIAL PLACE IN MY HEART. TONIGHT, PEOPLE ARE STILL ENJOYING PARADES, GRABBING ALL THE BEADS AND THROWS. RIGHT NOW. YOU SEE AT HARMONY CIRCLE, ONE OF THOSE FLOATS IS STOPPED RIGHT HERE AND PEOPLE ARE JUST CROWDED AROUND ON ALL THE CARNIVAL SPIRIT MARDI GRAS PARADES IN THE UPTOWN AREA CONTINUE TOMORROW MORNING WITH THE KREWE OF ISIS ROLLING STARTING AT 11 IN THE MORNING.
