NBA Rookie of the Year Voting Hints At Wizards Rookie’s Award Chances

The 2025 NBA Rookie of the Year race is over, and the winner has been announced. San Antonio Spurs guard Stephon Castle won the award, beating out Atlanta Hawks forward Zaccharie Risacher and Memphis Grizzlies forward Jaylen Wells for the award.

As always, the NBA revealed the voting results for the Rookie of the Year race. Castle ran away with the award with 482 votes, with Risacher getting 245 and Wells, 123. However, what’s more interesting for Washington Wizards fans is who placed fourth in the race.

Wizards center Alex Sarr’s omission from the finalists was seen as dubious by Wizards fans, and for good reason. The Wizards rookie had an impressive season as well, so for him not to crack the top three kind of hurts for fans. That being said… Sarr did place fourth in the voting with 34 votes, which is encouraging, at least.

What’s interesting to note here, though, is that Sarr’s placement gives him a great shot to make the NBA All-Rookie First Team. As Greg Finberg points out, “Sarr earned 24 more points than 5th place, which is a good sign for his All-Rookie First Team odds.”

Sarr averaged the most points per game among rookies with 13 points per game this season. In addition, his 1.5 blocks per game was one of the best marks not only among rookies, but across the entire league as well. While Sarr did not start off particularly well in his NBA career, he did show that he was one of the more impactful rookies in the NBA, despite the Wizards’ struggles this year.

In addition to Sarr, Wizards fans are hoping for one more rookie to crack the All-Rookie teams. Bub Carrington, the 14th-overall pick in the 2024 Draft, is in the rookie to make the All-Rookie second team as well.
