Morning Briefing: Mets Become First Team to Reach 20 Wins

Good morning, Mets fans!

The Mets bounced back from Sunday’s loss by banging out 21 hits in a 19-5 beatdown of the Nationals, becoming the first team in 2025 to reach the 20-win plateau. Brandon Nimmo led the way by clubbing two homers, including a grand slam, and driving in nine runs, tying Carlos Delgado‘s franchise record. Jeff McNeil smacked his first homer of the year and drove in three runs, and Griffin Canning tossed five scoreless innings to earn his fourth win of the year.

According to OptaStats, McNeil and Nimmo are the first pair of lefties to combine for five extra-base hits and 12 RBIs without striking out in a game since Fred Lynn and Carl Yastrzemski did so in 1975. Additionally, Mets starters have now allowed four runs or fewer in each of their first 29 games this season, the longest such streak by a National League team in the modern era.
