Slow-moving, training thunderstorms led to considerable flooding in the Boston metro area Thursday morning.

More than four inches of rain fell from Norwood to Canton to Milton in the Route 128 and I-93 area, bringing the morning commute to a crawl as portions of I-93 were shut down for a time.

The highway has since reopened as flooding has receded.

High humidity and a slow-moving frontal boundary fueled the waterlogged downpours.

Rain is tapering off Thursday afternoon, with drier weather building in from late Thursday through Friday and Saturday.

Although an isolated pop-up shower or downpour cannot be ruled out on Friday and Saturday, it is a low chance. We are not expecting anything close to the amount of rain that fell over the last few days.

The weekend will be cooler with highs in the mid-to-upper 70s, but still humid with dew points near 70 as a tropical airmass remains in place across Southern New England.
