MLB trade deadline: Live updates, news, transactions, rumors as Reds trade for Ke’Bryan Hayes, both Rogers twins dealt

The 2025 MLB trade deadline is almost here, and plenty of teams are getting in on the action.

The Arizona Diamondbacks unofficially kicked things off last week by trading first baseman Josh Naylor to the Seattle Mariners, and several other teams got in the mix over the weekend. The Yankees made two acquisitions in Ryan McMahon and Ahmed Rosario, and the Mets traded for Gregory Soto.

This week began with a shocker, as a likely trade target, Guardians closer Emmanuel Clase, was placed on non-disciplinary paid leave through Aug. 31 in connection with a sports-gambling investigation. Meanwhile, another top target, Diamondbacks All-Star 3B Eugenio Suárez, avoided serious injury after he was hit on the hand by a fastball Monday.

On Wednesday, the Reds acquired Ke’Bryan Hayes from the Pirates in exchange for reliever Taylor Rogers and 20-year-old shortstop prospect Sammy Stafura. Later Wednesday, Taylor’s twin brother, Tyler Rogers, was traded from the Giants to the Mets for a reported haul. Headed to San Francisco are right-hander José Butto, outfield prospect Drew Gilbert and right-handed pitching prospect Blade Tidwell, an impressive return for a rental reliever.

Then the closer floodgates really opened, with Twins closer Jhoan Duran being dealt to the Phillies just minutes before news broke of Cardinals closer Ryan Helsley heading to the Mets. Both were moved in exchange for a package of prospects, with the price for relief pitching high and reportedly getting higher.

The deadline is 6 p.m. ET Thursday.
