The New England Patriots will kick the tires on star defensive tackle Christian Wilkins, as confirmed by head coach Mike Vrabel.
Wilkins is set to be released by the Las Vegas Raiders, the team announced Thursday.
“I mean, I think we’ll have a conversation,” Vrabel said before Day 3 of training camp at Gillette Stadium on Friday. “This is something that’s pretty new so I don’t have all the information on where Christian is. I know Christian. I recruited him when he was up in the area in Connecticut and going to high school. So, I’m sure we’ll have a conversation.”
Wilkins will be released with the designation of “terminated vested veteran,” according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The 29-year-old has been recovering from a Jones fracture, which he suffered in his left foot last October. It caused him to play five games during the 2024 campaign. The Raiders voided the remaining guaranteed money on Wilkins’ deal due to how he “treated the rehab from his injury,” ESPN reported. Wilkins reported denied getting another surgery on his foot, despite the fact the Raiders believe it is needed.
