Mets Morning News for April 27, 2025

The Mets bounced back from Friday’s walk-off loss to shut out the Nationals 2-0 on a rainy Saturday afternoon. The game was delayed at the start due to rain and then in the bottom of the first, a pop-up storm caused another 45-minute delay. Luckily, Clay Holmes overcame this obstacle to pitch five scoreless innings. Francisco Alvarez’s two-run home run down the right field line in the bottom of the second was responsible for the game’s only runs. Danny Young and Reed Garrett each contributed a scoreless inning in relief and then unfortunately A.J. Minter had to depart the game after recording just one out in the eighth due to triceps tightness. Max Kranick came in to finish the eighth inning. Edwin Díaz started off shaky in the ninth, but struck out the final two batters to complete the victory and earn his seventh save of the season.
