The Rogers brothers packed their bags around the same time Wednesday after getting shipped out within hours of each other.
Taylor Rogers, a 34-year-old left-hander, was traded by the Reds to the Pirates on Wednesday just over an hour before the Mets’ shocking acquisition of his twin brother, righty Tyler Rogers, from the Giants.
The Mets shipped pitchers Blake Tidwell, Jose Butto and outfield prospect Drew Gilbert to the Giants for the submariner.
Taylor, a traditional-throwing southpaw, was traded with shortstop prospect Sammy Stafura to the Pirates for sure-handed third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes as the Reds make a postseason push.
The Rogers brothers previously played together on the Giants, with Taylor being traded to the Reds during the offseason for a minor league pitcher and cash considerations.
It is not the first time baseball brothers were traded on the same day.
During the 1970 offseason, catcher Danny Breeden was traded to the Cubs for Willie Smith, while his brother, Hal, was also acquired by the Cubs in exchange for Hall of Fame pitcher Hoyt Wilhelm.
Acquiring Tyler is a boon for the Mets’ bullpen, which has really struggled in recent weeks to hold down leads.
