MCU Scarlet Witch’s Secret Imprisonment Revealed By Seemingly Canon Comic

Multiverse of Madness

It is sort of an open secret at this point that Elizabeth’s Olsen’s Scarlet Witch will be coming back to the MCU in a big way after her apparent death in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. What is not known is how exactly this will come to pass, and what explanation will be given for her survival. But now we may know.

Fans are freaking out about a revelation in the recent TVA comic that shows Wanda being discovered as being held captive by the TVA, ending the issue on a cliffhanger. Normally, this would mean nothing, as it’s a comic, but there is a debate about whether this comic is actually canon, as previously indicated by some writers, but knowing this with 100% certainty may not be the case. However, it would explain a lot.

The TVA comic is a direct follow-up to the events of Loki season 2, not a realization of past TVA iterations in the comics, and there are direct references to Loki saving the multiverse. The characters featured in the comics are “saved” characters from other universes like Captain Carter, Spider-Gwen and Gambit.

Marvel comic artist Pere Perez confirmed that yes, this Wanda that’s shown is Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch, and she’s wearing the exact same outfit as we last saw her, and even has her blackened Darkhold fingers. We also saw the Scarlet Witch statue in the Void in Deadpool and Wolverine, implying that was a branch that was pruned by the TVA after Multiverse of Madness. As this was happening, the idea is that they grabbed Wanda and imprisoned her and she’s not crushed after all, but this still causes Strange to cease his pursuit of her. This part is all guesswork however, other than yes, that statue was indeed in the Void.

The main problem here is that there is still not 100% confirmation this is canon, and the alternate explanation is that it’s using the multiverse idea as some sort of “what if” scenario that has a speculative follow-up to Loki rather than a literal MCU canon version. It would also be kind of unusual to do a big reveal like this in a comic that 99.99% of MCU-watchers won’t see, albeit this may be realized in some form onscreen if true, showing a TVA capture.

The thing is, we just don’t know, but we cannot rule out that this may indeed be the explanation for Wanda and how she might return.
