Mainers gain up to 100 minutes of daylight this March as clocks spring forward

Throughout March, anywhere from 40 minutes to 100 minutes of daylight will be gained. (WGME)

PORTLAND (WGME) — Say goodbye to an extra hour of sleep this weekend but hello to later sunsets.

Daylight saving time starts on Sunday at 2:00 AM.

The new sunrise will be at 7:03 AM, with a 6:40 PM sunset.

Sunday would be a great time to test your smoke alarms.

Throughout March, Mainers can gain either 90 or 100 minutes of daylight.

Southern and western Maine will gain 90 minutes, while northern Maine can look for 100 extra minutes.

The sun sets on Thursday at 5:36 PM.

After that, the sunset will only get later and later. By the end of May, it will be close to 8:00 PM.
