Live updates: Tracking Red Sox news and rumors on MLB trade deadline day

The Boston Red Sox made their first pre-MLB trade deadline move late Wednesday night, but their work isn’t done.

Even after acquiring left-handed reliever Steven Matz in a trade with the Cardinals, the Red Sox could use a starting pitcher, first baseman, backup catcher and possibly another bullpen arm before Thursday’s 6 p.m. ET deadline.

They have been linked to several starters, including Sandy Alcantara (Miami Marlins), Mitch Keller (Pittsburgh Pirates), Zac Gallen (Arizona Diamondbacks), and Merrill Kelly (Diamondbacks). They also have been rumored to show interest in first basemen Yandy Diaz (Tampa Bay Rays) and Ryan O’Hearn (Baltimore Orioles).

After Wednesday’s 13-1 win over the Twins, Boston enters the trade deadline in the second American League Wild Card spot with a 59-51 record.
