The baby daddy is out of the bag. Mae Whitman hadn’t revealed the father of her baby, born in August 2024, but then Lauren Graham spilled the beans on Dax Shepard’s podcast. The father of Whitman’s son, Miles, is her former costar Carlos Valdes, who is currently starring in Hadestown on Broadway. Oops!

On the podcast, Graham said her relationship with Whitman, who played her daughter on Parenthood, was “the sweetest,” adding, “I still get a little thrill when she’ll text me back because it’s not a given. And she’s a mom now, and she’s working and she’s in Ireland.” Graham continued, “I’m trying to think the last time [I saw her]. They’re in New York now. Carlos, her baby daddy, is on Broadway in Hadestown, which I feel happy to plug because he’s fantastic in it, Carlos Valdes.”

When Whitman announced that she had welcomed a baby in August, she pointedly did not include mention of the father’s name, and she has been especially quiet about her relationship status. Whitman, who is pansexual, hasn’t been rumored to be in a relationship with anyone until now, though the tone of the announcement indicated at least that there was a second parent involved.

“From the moment we heard the first tiny sound out of his tiny piggy mouth we were besotted. He is the kindest, gentlest, smartest, funniest little beebee and he’s our best friend (pretty much exactly like his namesake Uncle Miles,” she wrote, referencing another Parenthood costar and friend, Miles Heizer.

So, we can’t tell you anything about Whitman and Valdes’s relationship really, but we can say that the entire Parenthood cast is famously close. Mae Whitman has said before that she considers both Miles Heizer and Lauren Graham to be among her “best friends.” For Graham’s birthday in 2023, Whitman posted to Instagram, “Lord it was my best friends birthday yesterday and nothing gives me more joy than celebrating her by eating rice krispjes she made straight out of the pan with our bare hands.” And in her pregnancy announcement, she posted a picture with Graham and Heizer, writing, “Not to make a parenthood episode out of it or anything but!!! Mother’s Day looking a little different this year!”
