The New York Jets were given a scare at training camp on Thursday when starting quarterback Justin Fields was carted off the field. He suffered what appeared to be a lower leg injury during practice, exiting the field to be evaluated further by the training staff.
Camp injuries are always worrisome, especially for a starting quarterback, so everyone was holding their collective breath after Fields went down.

Fortunately, it doesn’t sound like anything too serious.
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn said after practice that Fields suffered a right toe injury and that the quarterback is still being examined. While toe injuries can be troublesome, it was fortunately not a knee or leg injury.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network later reported that Fields dislocated his toe after being stepped on in practice. It was not his big toe, and there’s no fracture, either. The severity of the injury is still unclear but Rapoport indicated this could have been “a lot worse.”
It remains to be seen if this injury will keep Fields out for any amount of time. The Jets’ backup quarterback is Tyrod Taylor, with Adrian Martinez and Brady Cook also on the roster.
