Kelly Clarkson’s ex-husband was in a loving relationship at the time of his death. An obituary for Brandon Blackstock revealed that Brandon Blackstock had a devoted partner who was by his side after his divorce.
“Brandon, along with his beautiful and loving partner in life and business, Brittney Marie Jones, started building a life, building companies, and working tirelessly to create Headwaters Livestock Auction and what will live on as his legacy, The Valley View Rodeo in Bozeman, Montana,” the obituary read. The couple had not been public about their relationship until the obituary was released. Blackstock died on Aug. 7, 2025.

According to Page Six, Brittney Marie Jones was an assistant to Kelly Clarkson from December 2016 to December 2018 via her now-private LinkedIn. She was also an assistant to Blackstone during the time. Her employment was terminated in early 2020, the same time when Clarkson filed for divorce from her ex-husband. The divorce was finalized in 2022.
Jones’ father took to Facebook to make a tribute to her daughter’s boyfriend. “Yesterday we lost a good man Brandon Blackstock my daughter’s soulmate and I considered him my son,” he wrote. “My sincere condolences to Brittney Jones and family. We’re sure going to miss your funny humor. R.I.P hoss!”

Despite being separated and divorced, Clarkson stood by Blackstone’s private battle with melonoma all the way up until his death. “Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time,” a statement from Blackstock’s reps read.
“When she found out that he was sick, she remained protective of him for their sake,” a source told People. “Kelly has always tried to keep things classy. It became clear earlier this year that Brandon was not doing well. She’s been devastated for the kids.” The “Since U Been Gone” singer shares 2 sons with the executive, River, 11, and Remington, 9.
Clarkson was forced to cancel her Las Vegas residency dates in August due to vocal rest, and in part, due to Blackstock’s illness. “The prep and rehearsals have taken a toll on my voice,” she said in a statement. I want the shows to be perfect for y’all and I need to protect myself from doing serious damage so I am taking this weekend and next week to rest up so that we can deliver what you all deserve.”
“While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them,” she wrote in a statement on social media. “I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows and I so appreciate your grace, kindness and understanding.”
“It’s been exhausting and so sad… ” a source told Page Six. “Kelly has been working so hard, as well as looking after Brandon. Despite their difficult divorce, he’s still the man she loved and still her kids’ father.”
In an appearance on Angie Martinez’s IRL podcast, Clarkson opened up about the ups and downs of co-parenting. “Especially the past two years … it kills me [but] I want them to be honest so I don’t ever say, ‘Oh God, don’t tell me that,’ but a lot of times it would be like, ‘I’m just really sad. I wish Mommy and Daddy were in the same house,’” she explained. “They’re really honest about it. I’m raising that kind of individual.”
She continued, “I just sit there and I’m like, ‘I get it. I’m from a divorced family as well. I get it. That sucks. But we’re going to work it out. And you are so loved by both of us.’”
