Joey Chestnut Return: What is the 16-Time Champion’s Hot Dog Eating Record?

There might not be a more dominant champion than 16-time Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest champion Joey Chestnut.

Chestnut is considered to be the greatest competitive eater in the history of the sport, and he makes his grand return to the biggest hot dog eating competition in the world.

Sadly, Chestnut would not participate in the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest in 2024, as there was an issue with his striking up a sponsorship with Impossible Foods, leading to his ban from the competition.

In place of Chestnut, Patrick Bertoletti would win the men’s competition, consuming 58 hot dogs and buns in 10 mins.

Chestnut would instead pivot to Netflix, where he took on former rival Takeru Kobayashi on a special called “Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef.”

The standalone competition saw Chestnut take down 83 hot dogs and buns to Kobayashi’s 66.

Chestnut first won the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest in 2007, finally defeating Kobayashi, who had defeated the American eater the previous two years. Chestnut would hold the record from 2007 to 2014, when he was finally bested by

Matt Stonie in 2015.

Chestnut would return in 2016 to regain the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest title, and go another run to 2023. Though 2024 would have been his 17th title with Nathan’s, he was banned from the competition.

Now, Chestnut returns to take on the contest and reclaim his title.

Chestnut set the world record for most hot dogs and buns in 2021, when he downed 76 in the 10-minute time limit. Though Chestnut has 16 world titles, he has not been able to beat his own record of 76.
