Jets QB Justin Fields suffers dislocated toe at training camp; severity of injury unknown

New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields exited Thursday’s practice after suffering a toe injury on his right foot.

The initial diagnosis is that Fields suffered a dislocated toe but the severity of the injury remains unclear as the QB is still undergoing tests, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported. Rapoport added that Fields did not suffer a fracture and that Fields’ big toe was not dislocated.

Following practice, head coach Aaron Glenn told reporters that it was too early in the process to determine the gravity of the injury.

“I don’t know the severity of the injury, but I do know it’s a toe on the right side,” Glenn said. “We have an outstanding backup in Tyrod (Taylor), who’s been in this league around 14 years. The leadership that he brings. We’re all good.”

Fields was carted from practice early after pulling up lame following a play in which he rolled right and threw an incomplete pass to tight end Jeremy Ruckert, per reporters on the scene. The QB was down briefly before being helped off the field by a trainer. Fields spent time in the injury tent before being carted to the locker room.

Glenn believes Fields’ toe was stepped on based on how the play unfolded.
