After draws with Everton and Aston Villa, Liverpool proved their class as they secured back-to-back 2-0 victories over Manchester City and Newcastle. Now well clear of Arsenal at the top of the table, the Reds appear to be strolling towards the Premier League title.
However, manager Arne Slot will take nothing for granted and will have stressed to his players that they cannot give their rivals a sniff. They certainly won’t take the Saints lightly, having laboured to a 3-2 victory at St. Mary’s earlier this season, but will be confident of creating plenty of chances against a side that has conceded 11 goals in their last three league games.
The Reds have also proven to be especially tough to break down in recent weeks, as was shown in midweek when they repelled a PSG barrage to secure an important 1-0 win in the first leg of the Champions League last 16 tie.
This shows the size of the challenge facing a Southampton side who have not won at Anfield since 2013 and have lost their last 10 league games. Should they suffer a heavy defeat on Saturday then manager Ivan Jurić could well find himself under pressure, despite only being in charge since December.
