After a bunch of calendar shuffling due to the passing of Pope Francis, Inter and Roma are finally duking it out today at the San Siro with a huge amount on the line for both clubs. For Inter, the title race is still on: anything other than a win here will give Napoli an opportunity to seize the Scudetto for themselves. For Roma, their march up the table would receive a significant boost with a win, as they are only three points behind fourth-place Genoa.
True to his nickname, Claudio Ranieri decided to be a bit of a Tinkerman with his lineup today, perhaps due to the importance of the match. Lorenzo Pellegrini and Bryan Cristante are back in the starting lineup together, while Eldor Shomurodov and Artem Dovbyk are leading the line ahead of Pellegrini and Matias Soulé. Only time will tell if these significant changes to the starting lineup will give the Giallorossi the leg up they need to secure three points at the San Siro, but a change-up does seem like what the doctor ordered given Ranieri and Roma’s recent results in that stadium. Knock on wood, but maybe today is the first time in seventeen years that Ranieri wins one at the San Siro; maybe today is the first time Roma secures a win against Inter in the San Siro since 2016.
