Instant grade for Patriots signing Morgan Moses in NFL free agency

After focusing on the defensive side of the ball early in free agency, the New England Patriots added to their offense with their third signing on Monday: veteran offensive tackle Morgan Moses, who spent the last season as a 14-game starter with the New York Jets, was signed to a three-year, $24 million contract.

Let’s grade it.

Instant grade: Patriots sign Morgan Moses to 3-year, $24 million deal

Bernd Buchmasser: The Patriots were in dire need of some help at both their tackle spots, and Moses allows them to address one. While on the older side, he is as good a right tackle as was available on the open market and perfectly suited to serve as a placeholder at the position for at least 2025. | Grade: A

Brian Hines: Moses is 34 years old but one of the tougher and more reliable veterans in the league while still playing at a relatively high level (just two sacks and 16 pressures allowed last season). Right tackle was the biggest weak spot on New England’s line last season and that spot should be set this season with Moses now joining Caedan Wallace. | Grade: A-

Matt St. Jean: Morgan Moses should solidify the biggest weak spot on New England’s line for the next few seasons. While he’s older, he still has it and should work well with Michael Onwenu on the right side of the offensive line. | Grade: A

Pat Lane: I like the Morgan Moses signing, and I love the fact that they got him for so cheap. He’s an older player, so the young guys under him can still compete for a job. The Patriots were desperate for tackle help, and I think Moses is the best case scenario for them after Stanley signed back in Baltimore. | Grade: B+

With Moses added to the mix, the Patriots now have five pure offensive tackles on their roster. He is joining 2024 starters Vederian Lowe and Demontrey Jacobs as well as Caedan Wallace and Caleb Jones.
