It was a year ago when Xavier Worthy shocked the world with his record-breaking 4.21 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine. This year another Texas wide receiver, Isaiah Bond, has his eyes on the record.
Former Texas and current Kansas City Chiefs wideout Xavier Worthy sent shockwaves through the NFL community when he broke the combine’s 40-yard dash record last year, clocking a 4.21.
Now another former Longhorn receiver in Isaiah Bond thinks he can do the same.
“I’m going to break the record tomorrow, for sure,” Bond said at the combine, via Ian Rapoport. “I anticipate running a 4.20 possibly if Im feeling great I might run a 4.1.”

Bond spent one season with the Longhorns, catching 34 passes for 540 yards and five touchdowns. He also added 98 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
“So we had the runner last year Xavier Worthy, ripped off the record, I think that’s probably going to be safe,” NFL Draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah said on the Pat McAfee Show. “But I think there’s three guys that have a chance to get close. Maxwell Hariston, corner from Kentucky is kind of my favorite … Bond the wide receiver from Texas is crazy crazy fast.”
Here’s a list of the five fastest 40-yard dash times at the NFL Combine since 1999, when electronic timing was first used to track times.

Another Texas receiver recorded one of the fastest times in NFL Combine history. Marquise Goodwin ran a 4.27 in 2013.
Worthy’s 40 time essentially solidified him as a first-round choice last year. The Kansas City Chiefs traded up and drafted him 28th overall. Bond doesn’t have as high of a draft grade as Worthy did, but a record-breaking 40 time (or anything close to it) will help his draft stock.
The difference between Worthy and Bond is college production. Worthy’s fewest receiving yards in his three seasons at Texas was 760. In two seasons with Alabama and one with the Longhorns Bond never had more than 668 yards.
