DK Metcalf to the Green Bay Packers?

That possibility certainly got the internet’s attention Friday morning after a Seattle reporter said the Packers had talks with the Seahawks about a potential trade for the two-time Pro Bowl wide receiver.

A lot of the early offseason chatter with the Packers, including from their own players, has centered around whether the team needs a veteran No. 1 wide receiver to help take the offense to the next level and with deep-threat Christian Watson injured to begin the 2025 season.

Veteran wide receivers like former Packers star Davante Adams and Cincinnati Bengals’ Tee Higgins received some of the early headlines. But it appears Metcalf, a player who can extend the field, might be the player the Packers are actually interested in.

DK Metcalf trade rumors

Corbin K. Smith, of Emerald Spectrum in Seattle, got the internet talking Friday morning when he reported that the Packers could be a team to watch if the Seahawks decide to trade Metcalf.

“From my understanding, Seattle isn’t actively shopping Metcalf,” Smith wrote on X. “But at least one team that has inquired feels that they have the trade package in place to make (general manager John) Schneider strongly consider pulling the trigger and he’s at least been willing to listen.”

Smith added that that, according to one of his sources, the Packers “had discussions with the Seahawks this week” and have an offer that would include a high draft pick and a young wide receiver. He lists Romeo Doubs or Dontayvion Wicks as these potential players and the Packers would also have to give up their first-round draft pick in 2025.

“Anything less than that, it’s not happening,” Smith wrote.

Schneider worked in the Packers as a scout in the 1990s and later in the front office from 2002 to 2009, with his last title as the team’s director of football operations.

Meanwhile, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic reported that his sources have indicated there has been “no contact or negotiations as of now between the Packers and Seahawks” for a Metcalf trade.
